Coast Guard Helps to Unground Bulker

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Toledo, Station Marblehead, Ohio, along with the crew of the CSL Niagara and Lloyds Register, safely refloated a grounded vessel near Sandusky, Ohio, Monday night. The Canadian flagged, self-discharging, bulk cargo vessel CSL Niagara, operated by V-Ships, loaded with approximately 30,000 Metric Tons of Coal, grounded in the Moseley Channel, Sunday morning. Increased water levels and favorable wind conditions allowed the vessel to be freed with the assistance of three tugs contracted by V-Ships Canada.

Workers Attempt to Free Grounded Bulk Vessel

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Toledo are working with industry representatives to develop a salvage and lightering plan for freeing a grounded 225.5-meter self-discharging bulk cargo vessel near Sandusky, Ohio, Monday. The Canadian flagged vessel, CSL Niagara, owned by V Ships Canada and loaded with approximately 30,000 metric tons of coal, grounded in the Moseley Channel, Sunday morning. V Ships Canada has contracted three tugs to assist with the salvage evolution but weather and lake conditions are hindering salvage operations. No pollution or flooding has been observed.
