Cameroon Cocoa Exports Up in April

Cameroon cocoa exports jumped 24 percent to 181,893 tonnes year-on-year by end-April since the start of the 2014/15 season on Aug. 1, data from the sector's regulator showed on Tuesday. Statistics from the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB)  showed that Africa's fourth biggest grower shipped 4,384 tonnes of cocoa beans in April, down from 10,810 tonnes in March. But exports rose slightly, compared with 3,043 tonnes exported during the same month a year ago. Ten firms exported cocoa during the month, with Olam Cam, a unit of Singapore's Olam topping the chart with 1,818 tonnes, followed by Telcar Cocoa Ltd with 1,053 tonnes and Cameroon Marketing Commodities (CAMACO) with 752 tonnes.

Cameroon Cocoa Exports Down from Last Year

Cameroon, the world's fifth cocoa grower, has exported 152,941 metric tons of cocoa beans from the start of the 2013/14 season to end-June, down from 203,220 metric tons in the corresponding previous season, the National Cocoa and Coffee Board said on Thursday. The roughly 25 percent fall in total exports came despite higher shipments in June when 4,256 metric tons of cocoa left ports compared with 2,305 metric tons for the same month last year and 2,268 tonnes in May. NCCB indicated that there were 11 exporters for the month, down from 13 in May, with Producam exporting a hefty 1,003 metric tons, followed by Olam Cam with 983 tonnes and Telcar Cocoa Ltd with 853 metric tons.
