DMA Powerboat license: Yes or No?

Now it has become easier to find out whether a powerboat license is required for your boat. The Danish Maritime Authority has added a new function, making it possible for you to insert your boat's length and output and then see whether a powerboat license is required for your boat. The function is available for boats below 15 metres. Director Rasmus Høy Thomsen from the Danish Maritime Authority, "It is our hope that this self-service solution will make it fast and easy for yachtsmen to know whether there are any certificate requirements for their boats. A powerboat license is always required for water scooters and jet skis. If you operate a water scooter or are jet skiing, you are always required to have a powerboat license.

Bawat Gains USCG’s AMS Acceptance

The ballast water management system developed by Danish company Bawat A/S has been granted U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Alternate Management System (AMS) acceptance for an interim period of up to five years, enabling commercial vessels equipped with the system to be approved to discharge treated ballast water in U.S. coastal waters. The Copenhagen International Ballast Water Management Conference 2013 will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on November 1, 2013.The conference focuses on the IMO Ballast Water Convention, which is expected to take effect at some point in the not too distant future. A number of international experts will provide answers to important questions about the ballast water of ships and the conventions impact on shipping, when the rules take effect. The conference is a combination of presentations and panel discussions, where there will be the opportunity to get questions answered.
