Hensoldt UK announcde the supply of Kelvin Hughes Mk11 X Band SharpEye navigation radars to two Polish Navy Kormoran II-class minehunters. ORP Albatros and ORP Mewa were built by Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. shipyard in Gdańsk, Poland.Installed in conjunction with an OSI Maritime Systems integrated navigation bridge system, the radar will be tasked with navigation and surface surveillance functionality, providing the Polish Navy with solid state radar sensors to ensure safety of navigation whilst providing advanced small target search capability.

Australian Maritime Systems Group is entering into a joint venture with one of Europe’s leading marine technology companies as part of a tender for Australia’s next giant defence contract. The Brisbane-based company is partnering with Dutch firm Alewijnse Marine to support the Damen Group’s bid to build the next generation of 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) for the Royal Australian Navy. The vessels will be mainly constructed in Adelaide and Perth, but AMSG’s involvement would generate highly-skilled and long-term electrical engineering jobs for the Queensland-based company.

LONDON, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has signed a full production contract for the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carrier Programme. The company also signed a design phase contract for the Navigation Lights, Shapes and Sounds (NLSS). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will build and deliver the complete INBS, including electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS-N (U.K.)) for the new aircraft carriers. The system will include navigation planning, electronic charts and radar displays, as well as a comprehensive set of sensors and software.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been awarded a contract to supply the navigation and communication systems for nine new 114.8 ft patrol boats being built for the Iraqi navy. The $19m firm, fixed-price contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit by Swiftships Shipbuilders, LLC of Morgan City, La. Work on the contract will be performed by Northrop Grumman’s Ocean Springs, Miss., facility. Under the contract, each of the vessels will be fitted with an integrated bridge system (IBS) based on Sperry Marine’s new-generation VisionMaster FT navigation technology. The IBS will include navigation radars and electronic chart display and information systems running on TotalWatch multi-function workstations.

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Sperry Marine business unit has won orders from the China Shipbuilding Corporation shipyard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to supply integrated bridge systems (IBS) for 12 new container ships. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. “The state-of-the-art bridge electronics suite is designed to enhance navigation safety by integrating all of the ships’ navigation and steering control systems,” said John DeMaso, president of Sperry Marine. The new ships, which are being built for Chilean ship owner Compañia Sudamericana de Vapores (CSAV) and German ship owner, Reederei Peter Doehle, will be fitted with a complete IBS featuring Sperry Marine’s proprietary Voyage Management System software.

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been selected to supply the bridge navigation and communication systems for a new SeaFrance high-performance vehicle-passenger ferry, which is being built at Alstom’s Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France. The new ferry, to be christened SeaFrance Berlioz, in honor of the famous French composer, is scheduled to enter service in February 2005. Northrop Grumman Corporation introduced new models of desktop marine navigation radars with state-of-the-art, high-resolution, color LCD flat-screen displays. With the introduction of the new flat-screen 180 and 250 models, the entire line of BridgeMaster E radars has now been switched over from CRT to LCD displays, according to John Robinson, strategic business unit director for radars at the company’s Sperry Marine business unit. “We have totally discontinued the use of CRTs in our new BridgeMaster E radar range," said Robinson. "We will, however, continue to support our large base of installed base of CRT radars currently in service for at least the next 10 years,” he said.

Litton Marine Systems (LMS) won a contract to supply navigation radars for four new Hellenic Navy gunboats. The contract was awarded to Litton by Thomson-CSF Signaal, which is the primary combat systems contractor for the four new vessels being built at the Hellenic Shipyard Co., Skaramanga. The first of the new gunboats will be delivered to the Hellenic Navy starting in mid-2002. Litton will supply Decca BridgeMaster E naval radars with a special naval transceiver unit and 250-mm color ARPA display. The radars will be integrated by Signaal into the TACTICOS combat management system. The contract includes equipment, installation, commissioning, spares support and training for Hellenic Navy personnel.

Leica Marine GPS has won orders to supply high-precision marine DGPS receivers for four new Hellenic Navy gunboats. Each of the gunboats will be fitted with a Leica MX 420/8 DGPS receiver, which will be used as the primary navigation aid. The MX 420/8 will be interfaced with other bridge equipment, including the BridgeMaster E navigation radars, DSC radio, central clock system and gyrocompass. The contract includes options for two more gunboats. The equipment will be installed and commissioned by Radio Marine Electronics, the Greek sales and service agent for Leica Marine GPS. The four new gunboats are being built at the Hellenic Shipyard Co., in Skaramanga, with the first scheduled delivery in mid-2002.

These first two 80-meter OPVs are being constructed at the ASMAR Shipyard in Talcahuano, Chile. The IBS contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit. Sperry Marine will supply commercial-off-the-shelf IBSs based on their innovative VisionMaster FT advanced PC-based Ethernet architecture that includes proven navigation radars, electronic chart display and information system, heading and speed sensors, autopilot and other subsystems. The contract includes installation, commissioning, integration, training and service. The systems will be delivered over the next two years.
