Maersk's Port Business Woos Customers with New Transport Services

Danish shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk's is betting on winning new customers for its port division by becoming a one-stop shop that can transport goods from factory to retailers' shelves. The move comes as Maersk, the world's biggest container shipper, is entering uncharted territory following its sale last year of most of its energy businesses. US States Slow Trump Offshore Oil Drilling Expansion Plan

The Trump administration's plan to broadly expand drilling in U.S. offshore waters is moving slowly due to opposition from coastal states and indifference from oil companies that have turned their focus to other opportunities. The administration hopes encouraging U.S. energy development outside of shale oilfields will further its goal of "energy dominance." But existing Obama administration lease rules remain in place through 2022 unless the new rules gain approval. The Department of the Interior this year proposed opening vast new acreage in the U.S. outer continental shelf to drilling.

Harding Inks Deals with Three Industry Giants

In the past few weeks, Harding, an international supplier of maritime safety equipment, has signed three framework agreements with Statoil, Petrobras and A.P. Møller Mærsk. "This shows that our global strategy of being a complete supplier of both equipment and services was the right strategy for the company," said Styrk Bekkenes, CEO of Harding. Statoil is Harding's biggest client on the Norwegian continental shelf, with over 120 lifeboat systems in operation. Foss is Upbeat on the Arctic

Foss Maritime Builds New Ice-Class Tugs as it embarks on a new Arctic Challenge. To support growing Arctic business, Seattle-based Foss Maritime Company is building three ocean-going tugs at its Rainier Shipyard in Oregon on the Columbia River. These 132 feet-long, Ice Class vessels will have strengthened hulls designed to withstand the harsh, Arctic climate conditions into which they will eventually be deployed. Work on the tugs began in July, and the first in the series will be delivered in December 2014.

GAC, Nat'l Maritime College of Ireland Initiative

GAC, provider of shipping, logistics and marine services, announced the launch of GAC Training & Service Solutions Limited (GTSS), a new initiative that will provide training solutions for the LNG and tanker markets, as well as other commodity and maritime sectors. A joint venture between GAC and the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI), the partnership will provide expert delivery of a portfolio of training courses for both seafarers and shore-based shipping personnel.
