Port of New Orleans Board Elects Kearney as Chairman

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has elected Mr. Michael W. Kearney chairman. Mr. Kearney represents Orleans Parish and joined the Board in December of 2012 when he was appointed by former Gov. Bobby Jindal. He succeeds Mr. William T. Port of New Orleans' Board of Commissioners Elects William T. Bergeron Chairman; Michael W. Kearney Elected Vice Chair, Robert Barkerding Jr. The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans today elected William T. Bergeron chairman. Bergeron represents St. Bernard Parish and joined the Board in November of 2012 when he was appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal. He succeeds Scott H. Cooper, whose term as chairman expired this month. Cooper will continue to serve as a commissioner. In addition, Michael W. Kearney was elected vice chairman and Robert R. Barkerding, Jr. as its secretary-treasurer.

DoD Awards US$117-M New Orleans Dredge Contract

The US Department of Defense informs that it has awarded Boh Bros. Construction Co., LLC, New Orleans, Louisiana, a US$116,956,672 firm-fixed-price contract with options for the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project's widening of the Florida Avenue Canal, Phase II and III, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Work will be performed in New Orleans, Louisiana, with an estimated completion date of Oct. 15, 2018. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Army) funds in the amount of $116,956,672 are being obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans, Louisiana, is the contracting activity (W912P8-14-C-0049).

Chouest Appointed to Port of New Orleans Board

Governor Bobby Jindal appointed south Louisiana businessman and entrepreneur Laney J. Chouest to the Board of the Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans. Chouest, who was sworn in during today’s Board meeting, will serve a five-year term, succeeding Joseph F. Toomy, one of two Jefferson Parish representatives on the regional Board that governs Port operations in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes. A native of Galliano, La. and resident of New Orleans, Chouest is the owner and developer of NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, La.

BOEMRE $25.8M Award for Louisiana Project

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement  (BOEMRE) announced that it has awarded more than $25 million in Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) funding to the state of Louisiana. The funding is for the construction of a protective land bridge to safeguard against erosion and preserve marsh along the Lake Borgne shoreline, on the eastern edge of New Orleans. The state will partner with Orleans Parish in the proposed three-year Orleans Land Bridge Shoreline Protection project. This is one of the largest single CIAP grants to be awarded since the start of the program. Created by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, CIAP provides funding to the six Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas producing states to conserve and protect the coastal environment.
