Ammonia Cracking Technology Receives LR Approval in Principle

H2SITE’s AMMONIA to H2POWER technology for ammonia cracking onboard has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register (LR).The technology is an onboard containerized solution that produces fuel-cell-quality hydrogen using ammonia. This hydrogen can then be used by hydrogen fuel cells that can contribute to the vessel’s electrical power, or the hydrogen could be consumed directly in an internal combustion engine.Ammonia cracking is gaining momentum as a potential hydrogen…

Eastern Pacific Shipping to Equip Pacific Sentinel with eSAIL Wind Propulsion System

Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has signed a contract for its first ever wind-assisted propulsion system, partnering with bound4blue to install three 22-metre eSAILs onboard the Pacific Sentinel. The turnkey ‘suction sail’ technology, which drags air across an aerodynamic surface to generate propulsive efficiency, will be fitted in fourth quarter of 2024.The wind-assisted propulsion technology is expected to help the 183-metre, 50,000 DWT oil and chemical tanker reduce overall energy consumption by approximately 10%…

Kongsberg Propulsion for Norwind Offshore's New Vessels

Norwind Offshore, a new offshore wind-focused ship-owning company recently established in Norway by Farstad, Volstad, and Kleven, will install Kongsberg equipment to its two new Commissioning Service Operations Vessels (CSOVs), to be built by VARD."Kongsberg Maritime’s scope of delivery encompasses a combination of systems which will enable the operator to maximize operational windows whilst minimizing overall energy consumption," Kongsberg said."Key to this is the propulsion technology…

Tech File: HydroComp NavCad for Optimized Design

HydroComp NavCad, internationally recognized for resistance and propulsion prediction for naval architects, can also leverage analysis capabilities with features that support optimized hull form and propulsion system design. NavCad may be most well-known for its library of parametric-statistical hull form and propulsion system models (often called “1D” models). The recent introduction of the Premium Edition now brings a higher-order distributed-analytical (“2D”) hull form analysis to design optimization.

Imtech Designs for Energy-Efficient Research Vessel

Imtech Marine provides complete Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning to new eco-friendly Research Vessel ‘Sonne’. Energy savings realized by Dynamic Simulation techniques. Imtech Marine was selected as supplier of the new Research Vessel ‘Sonne’. Imtech designs and installs the complete HVAC system for accommodation areas, laboratories and machinery spaces, as well as the redundant cold and warm water supply system with a combination of turbo chillers and absorption chillers.

Jousset, Julien Finalists in Superyacht Awards

The designer Adrien Jousset (ASK Yacht Design) and naval architect Sylvain Julien (BMT Nigel Gee), have been selected as one of five finalists in the World Superyacht Awards, Young Designer of the Year 2009, for the Ostria design. “The high standard of entries presented the judges with no easy task in selecting the finalists,” stated Trevor Blakeley, Chief Executive of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects and Chairman of the judging panel. Ostria not only has a radical look but has also been developed to provide an answer to an environmentally conscious owner.
