Ship Structure Committee, Volunteers Wanted

The Ship Structure Committee (SSC) is currently recruiting volunteers for the SR – 1463 “Challenges to be Faced by the Arctic Ships” research project. Project Technical Committee (PTC) Chairman is Chao Lin of MARAD at 202-366-1847 or chao.lin@dot.gov. MARAD is the funding agency. Anyone interested in participating as a member of the PTC for this project should reply to jeannette.y.grant@uscg.mil and the PTC Chairman. The SSC has a short time frame to prepare a new Statement of Work, announce the contract, review proposals and award this contract by September 25, 2009. (www.shipstructure.org)

ABS Elects Pendexter Senior VP

ABS announced the election of Linwood (Lenny) Pendexter to the position of Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Surveyor by the ABS Board of Directors at a recent meeting in New York. Pendexter has been an active advocate for maritime safety throughout his career. He currently serves as the classification society’s Chief Surveyor, overseeing a global network of more than 1,400 surveyors. He plans to continue stressing the importance  of safety within and outside the organization. “Safety is the heart and soul of ABS and the role ABS plays in the maritime industry,” he says.
