Retlif Expands Solar Testing Capabilities

IEEE Honors Retlif Testing Laboratories

Independent Electromagnetic Compatibility testing (EMC) and Environmental Simulation testing (ESS) company Retlif Testing Laboratories said it has received an award from technical professional organization the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Retlif Opens Composites Testing Lab

Retlif Testing Laboratories, an independent global provider of EMI/EMC and Environmental (ESS) testing and compliance services, has launched its new dedicated Composites Testing Laboratory. The result of three years of planning, Retlif’s new Composites Testing Laboratory provides testing for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP), Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRP), Aramids (Kevlar), as well as for Non-Fiber Reinforced Plastic, materials used in commercial aviation, aerospace and avionics, maritime, military and rail applications.

In his new position as Director of Operations, Poggi will oversee the day-to-day operations of all Retlif branches. Retlif Promotes Reitz to Director of Engineering

Independent EMC and environmental testing organization Retlif Testing Laboratories has promoted Richard Reitz to the position of Director of Engineering. Reitz has been with Retlif since 1985, serving in several capacities. As Director of Engineering, he will now oversee testing and staff engineers at all the Retlif testing facilities including Ronkonkoma, N.Y. headquarters and Plainview, N.Y. composite laboratory, as well as the Harleysville, Penn., Charlotte, N.C. and Goffstown, N.H. laboratories. Young Sea Cadets Return from Voyage of a Lifetime

Six-day ‘Voyage of Discovery’ concludes in Mt. Six teenage U.S. Naval Sea Cadets from Long Island who set sail from Mt. Sinai Harbor returned from their six-day Voyage of Discovery, bringing back a lifetime of practical sea experience and tactical training. Captain Roger Noakes and three experienced crewmen sailed with the aspiring U.S. Navy Midshipmen aboard the Nada, a 47-foot sailing vessel. The six-day and six-night sail started on August 14 and included voyages to Connecticut, Cape Cod and back to Mt. Sinai Harbor on August 20. The sea experience included site tours and training.

Retlif Expands Into North Carolina

Independent compliance and testing organization Retlif Testing Laboratories announced it has expanded with a new location in Concord, North Carolina to answer a growing regional need for testing services. The new laboratory, established after two years of searching for an ideal location, will initially offer pre-compliance evaluation Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility services, including EMI, EMC, Lightning testing and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). The EMI test standard for the Department of Defense is MIL-STD-461, while the EMI test standard for the Commercial Aviation Industry is RTCA DO-160. Other available services include ESS regulatory consulting and documentation, as well as extensive engineering services.

New Composites Accreditations for Retlif Testing Laboratories

EMI/EMC and Environmental (ESS) compliance and testing services provider Retlif Testing Laboratories informs it has finalized the accreditation process for its new dedicated Composites Testing Laboratory. Located within the Composite Prototyping Center (CPC), in Plainview, N.Y., the new laboratory is now fully accredited to IS0-STD-17025, the international standard that represents the basis for accreditation from an accrediting body through formal recognition of demonstration of that competence.

NSF Expands Independent Lab for USCG

The NSF International Independent Laboratory (IL), the first designated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to test ballast water management systems (BWMS) for U.S. type approval, will now include the American Bureau of Shipping’s (ABS) expertise. ABS will complete design/construction and documentation reviews as part of the type approval, and will work with three other IL partners to maximize the value of USCG type approval testing for BWMS manufacturers. ABS will also evaluate the appropriateness of the systems for installation and operation onboard vessels. NSF’s IL partnership, formed in 2012, includes Retlif Testing Laboratories, the Great Ships Initiative, the Maritime Environmental Resource Center and now ABS.

Retlif To Help Test Ballast Water Technology

Retlif Testing Laboratories is part of a partnership to evaluate and test technologies designed to treat ballast water on board ships against non-native aquatic species in American coastal waters, lakes and rivers. The U.S. Coast Guard developed regulations to limit the release of live organisms and to reduce the risks associated with the spread of aquatic invasive species. Ballast water management system manufacturers (BWMS) will apply to NSF International and the U.S. Coast Guard for testing, review and evaluations.

The certification is awarded to those who demonstrate knowledge, proficiency, education and experience in Electromagnetic Compatibility and the employment of EMC/EMI principles in Electronics and Electrical Design. Poggi has long been a leading advocate of continuing electronics industry education with particular emphasis on EMC/EMI training.
