The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has issued its report on the deaths of three stevedores in a cargo hold access space on board the bulk carrier Berge Mawson.On the morning of 27 June 2022, three unconscious stevedores were found in a cargo hold access space on the Isle of Man registered bulk carrier Berge Mawson at Bunyu Island Anchorage, Indonesia. Despite prompt medical attention all three men died.Berge Mawson was loading coal from barges using a floating crane. During a pause in loading due to heavy rain, all hatches were closed.

Maritime risk management and environmental assessment organization RightShip announced its new Safety Score and Platform has gone live, aiming to provide a clear and transparent pathway to improved safety standards for shipping.RightShip said it spent two years building and refining the Safety Score, a metric that enables the maritime industry to improve the safety of vessel operations. The Safety Score ensures there are minimum standards that all vessels must meet, as well as clear actions to take to improve a vessel’s score.

Singapore's dry bulk shipping company Berge Bulk has taken delivery of the second and newest 300,000DWT very large ore carrier (VLOC) in China.The new vessel, named Berge Mafadi, was delivered from the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) yard in Guangzhou, said a press note. With a ‘Rightship A+’ rating and an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) 20% below the baseline, she ranks amongst the most energy-efficient bulk carriers in the world.Berge Mafadi has been designed to carry a maximum cargo lift from Port Hedland as well as South Africa and Brazil.The vessel is named after a peak on the border of South Africa and Lesotho. At the height of 3,450m, Mafadi is the highest mountain in the nation of South Africa.
