Saab Develops Underwater Anti-IED Robot

Designed to combat below-the-surface terrorism, Sea Wasp is the latest generation remotely operated vehicle (ROV) from defense and security company Saab. Presented at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition in National Harbor, Md., Sea Wasp has been engineered to relocate, identify and neutralize underwater improvised explosive devices (IEDs). While most underwater IED threats are disposed of manually by trained explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) divers, Sea Wasp is operated remotely by two-person teams from the surface, allowing operators to keep a safe distance from the explosives.

Participants at workshop make multiple radar contacts

Naval radar experts met in San Diego to share their expertise and experiences with the operation and support of the Saab Sea Giraffe naval surveillance radar. The workshop enabled the participants to make contacts and develop working relationships with other naval experts involved with the operation and support of the Swedish-made system, and create a clearer picture of the current state of the radar and its development. Saab Sea Giraffe Naval Radar

Users of the Saab Sea Giraffe naval radar are meeting this week in San Diego to share their experiences with the operation and support of the Sea Giraffe family of naval surveillance radars. The radar is well suited for small combatants, and has been installed aboard corvettes and frigates, patrol boats, and the littoral combat ship, and is in service or selected for installation with 12 navies around the world.
