Hapo Acquires 1,200-Ton Cranes from Cadeler's Wind Installation Vessels

Hapo International Barges has acquired cranes recently removed from Cadeler's Wind Orca and the Wind Osprey offshore wind installation vessels from Cadeler.These 1,200-ton cranes had to be replaced with even larger cranes for Cadeler to be able to install the next generation of wind turbines. The cranes are each capable of lifting 1200 t with a boom length of 115 m."For Hapo [this is] an excellent opportunity to further strengthen its position in the heavy-lift barge market.On November 1, 2023, the second crane was handed over on the bridge of the Wind Osprey following a technical inspection.

Tugdock and Salamander Offshore Wind Team Up to Accelerate Floating Wind Energy Development

UK-based company Tugdock has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Salamander floating offshore wind farm to collaborate on innovation for floating offshore wind energy in Scotland.Tugdock, based in Cornwall, UK, has patented marine buoyancy technology that enables heavy marine structures to be built or assembled and loaded-out in ports with water depth or space restrictions.Salamander Offshore Wind is a joint venture development project between Simply Blue Group, Ørsted and Subsea7, which is developing a floiating wind farm to be located offshore from Peterhead in North-East Scotland.

Ineos Storage Tanks at Antwerp Port

During the past month a pusher barge moored in the Antwerp port area on the Left bank of the Scheldt carrying four large storage tanks each 50 metres long. These cylinders came from a specialist tank builder in Germany and were carried down the Rhine to Antwerp. After being unloaded they continued their journey by night by special road transport to the Ineos Oxide site in Zwijndrecht. The British chemical company Ineos entrusted coordination of this project to Jacobs Belgium, specialised in project coordination and design, in particular for the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors. For the onshore transport and erection of these storage tanks Jacobs opted for a ro/ro and hydraulic installation operation…

Crowley Transports Panama Canal Gate

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s heavy lift barge 455 4 successfully delivered the first in a series of new gates for the ongoing Panama Canal expansion. Crowley is scheduled to help transport all eight of the gates involved in the Pacific side lock expansion of the Canal – a project that when coupled with the Atlantic side expansion will create a new lane of vessel traffic and double the waterway’s capacity. The 455 4 was contracted by Sarens, a Belgium-based heavy lift company, to transport the gates from Cristóbal, a port on the Atlantic side of the Canal, to Grupo Unidos por el Canal, SA’s (GUPC SA) construction dock, which was built to receive the gates on the canal’s Pacific side.

Panama Canal Lock Gate Transportation Contract for Geodis Wilson

As part of a US$50-million contract Geodis Wilson will manage the transport of 16 lock gates, each weighing more than 4,000 tons, for Panama Canal expansion project. An initial vessel, carrying four of the gates will depart from Italy in February 2013 and will be followed by a further three shipments throughout the year. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2013. The new gates are part of the large-scale expansion plan by the Panama Canal Authority that is designed to double the capacity of the Panama Canal by 2014.

Rigging Int’l, Sarens Group Partnership

A strategic alliance has been formed between Rigging International (RI) of Alameda, California and the Sarens Group of Belgium. Effective May 31, 2009 Sarens acquired 100% of the shares of RI, which will continue to operate under its present name and current management in the heavy lift rigging and heavy haul transport industry. The alliance allows the Sarens Group entry into the US market and greater reach internationally. Rigging International’s position is similarly strengthened domestically and worldwide. The Sarens Group, with headquarters in Wolvertem, Belgium, has been active in crane rental, and heavy lifting and special projects since 1955. Sarens operates in 25 countries and has more than 2100 employees.
