World's Largest Cruise Ship Wonder of the Seas Delivered to Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean International has taken delivery of its fifth Oasis Class cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas, from French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique, in Saint-Nazaire, France.At 236,857 GT, the new cruise ship takes the title of world's largest from its 228,081 GT sister ship Symphony of the Seas, in service since 2018.The 1,188-foot-long, 210-foot-wide Wonder of the Seas has 18 decks, including 16 guest decks, with accommodations for up to 6,988 passengers in 2,867 staterooms, plus 2,300 crew.

RCL Confirms Sixth Vessel Order

Meyer Werft delivered the 168,660-gt cruise ship Ovation of the Seas to the U.S. cruise operator Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. today in Bremerhaven. The third ship of the Quantum class sets new standards in terms of eco-friendliness, according to the shipbuilder: it features highly energy-efficient systems, optimized hydrodynamics, heat recovery, an effective underwater paint coating, a state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment plant (hybrid scrubber) as well as energy-saving LED lighting systems.

MEYER WERFT delivered the 167,800-gt cruise ship Quantum of the Seas to the U.S. cruise operator Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. yesterday in Bremerhaven. According to the builder, the first ship of the Quantum class sets new standards in terms of eco-friendliness, featuring highly energy-efficient systems, optimized hydrodynamics, heat recovery, an effective underwater paint coating, a state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment plant (hybrid scrubber) as well as energy-saving LED lighting systems. The ship can accommodate 4,180 guests in 2,090 cabins, and is staffed by a crew of approximately 1,550.

Quantum of the Seas Delivered to Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean International took delivery today of the newest addition to the cruise line’s fleet, Quantum of the Seas, from Meyer Werft Yard, at an official signing ceremony in Bremerhaven, Germany attended by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain and Meyer Werft Yard’s Managing Partner Bernard Meyer. Wärtsilä to Power Project Genesis

Wärtsilä Corporation received a contract from Aker Yards Oy, Finland, in July 2006 for the delivery of the main engines and the transverse tunnel thrusters for the 220,000 grt Project Genesis cruise ship contracted by Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd (RCL) for operation by Royal Caribbean International. Due for delivery in autumn 2009, this cruise ship will be powered by six Wärtsilä 46 common rail diesel engines. The engines will be incorporated in the ship's diesel-electric power plant supplying all propulsion, ancillary and hotel services. Wärtsilä is also supplying four Lips transverse tunnel thrusters. The Project Genesis is a huge leap in size, being some 43 per cent larger than RCL's record-breaking "Freedom of the Seas" delivered earlier this year by Aker Yards.

Litton Marine Systems Supplies IBS Order

Litton Marine Systems will supply integrated bridge systems (IBS) for two new cruise ships for Royal Caribbean International (RCI). The two vessels are currently under construction at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg. Radiance of the Seas, will be delivered in early 2001, with the second vessel scheduled to arrive during the second half of 2002. In accordance with Royal Caribbean's two-bridge concept, each vessel will house a completely redundant package comprised of two independent Vision 2100 integrated bridge systems. The total package will include interswitched BridgeMaster E S-band and X-band radars, a Sperry Marine Voyage Management System (VMS) with ECDIS and a docking system.
