TASI Acquires SignalFire Telemetry

TASI HOLDINGS INC. announced today it has completed the acquisition of all shares of SignalFire Telemetry, located in Hudson, Massachusetts. DNV GL developed a new unmanned floating LNG concept that it claims overcomes many of the challenges faced by operators looking to unlock the potential of remote offshore gas fields. The History of Offshore Energy

Offshore exploration is a history of man v. Prospecting for oil is a dynamic art. Deep-sea Internet Being Developed at UB

University at Buffalo (UB) researchers are developing a deep-sea Internet: they consider that the technological breakthrough could lead to improvements in tsunami detection, offshore oil and natural gas exploration, surveillance, pollution monitoring and other activities. “A submerged wireless network will give us an unprecedented ability to collect and analyze data from our oceans in real time," said Tommaso Melodia, UB associate professor of electrical engineering and the project’s lead researcher.

RBR Joins Smart Ocean Sensor Consortium

RBR has joined the Smart Ocean Sensor Consortium (SOSC) as a founding member. The SOSC is a group of key manufacturers and users of Oceanographic instruments dedicated to improving the reliability, utility and cost-effectiveness of hydrographic sensor networks through the adoption, development, and promotion of appropriate standard interfaces and protocols. Manufacturing members will supply a universal unique identifier (UUID) with each compliant instrument, and will comply with a group-defined interface to retrieve the UUID from the device's serial port. ONR Researchers Awarded for Achievements

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) bestowed five researchers with high honors in a ceremony Aug. 14 during the 2008 ONR Naval S&T Partnership Conference held in . Dr. Bobby Junker was presented with the Fred E. Saalfeld Award for a Lifetime Achievement in Science. Four others received the Vice Adm. G. Bowen Award for their work resulting in patented inventions, David Abdow, James Butts, Donald Cox and Stephen Oliver. Junker was selected for the lifetime achievement award for his more than 30 years of leadership in research in the defense industry. He is the department head for the Command, Control, Communications & Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Department at ONR.
