The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a final rule denying the petition for reconsideration of the Automatic Identification System (AIS) equipment certification requirements for ship station equipment. The FCC concluded that there is no compelling justification for adopting domestic AIS equipment certification standards that diverge from international standards.
