Thirty-Four Foss Vessels Win Safety Awards

The Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) presented the Foss vessels with Jones F. Devlin Awards at the Annual Safety Awards Luncheon held this year in New Orleans, Louisiana. The awards are given to self-propelled merchant vessels that have operated for two full years or more without a crew member losing a full turn at watch because of an occupational injury. Altogether, the Foss ships achieved the equivalent of 144 years without a lost-time injury. Foss Tows USNS Shasta from San Diego to Norfolk

Foss 3,000 hp tug Sidney Foss was dispatched from Seattle to tow USNS Shasta from San Diego to Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock Corp. (Norshipco), located in Norfolk, Va. USNS Shasta measures 564 x 81 ft. Shasta is a U.S. Navy Ammunition Ship, and is being transferred to Military Sealift Command (MSC) for utilization. Norshipco will perform substantial modifications to the ship's house structure at its Norfolk yard, and will convert Navy berthing and office compartments to configurations meeting MSC requirements.
