Optimarin BWTS Completes USCG Testing

Ballast water treatment (BWT) system specialist Optimarin said it has completed the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) environmental test and all land-based and shipboard testing for marine, brackish and fresh water. It is understood to be the first supplier of UV-based BWT technology to satisfy the USCG’s CMFDA testing criteria. Optimarin has specialized in environmentally friendly UV treatment technology for the past 22 years, installing the world’s first ever commercial system in 2000 on the cruise ship Princess Regal.

VARD Orders BWT Systems for Topaz Newbuilds

Ballast water treatment (BWT) system Optimarin has picked up an order covering 15 vessels from VARD shipyards. Saga Shipholding’s Optimarin Experience Drives BWT Orders

Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin has signed a contract with Saga Shipholding for the provision of three of its Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS). The order marks a new chapter in the working relationship between the two, with Saga originally purchasing an initial 26 systems from Optimarin in 2012. According to Nils Otto Bjorhovde, Saga Shipholding’s Hong Kong-based Technical Manager, it’s the performance of those systems to date that persuaded the firm to return for more: “We spent 2011 evaluating the entire BWT market,” Bjorhovde said.

Optimarin Reports Surge in BWTS Orders

With its latest succession of contracts won, ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin reports it has now sold more than 400 of its environmentally friendly UV-based systems. Optimarin said 2016 has been a boom year for a company that installed the first ever commercial BWT system back in 2000. Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) orders have been confirmed with Atlantis Tankers (10 units) and Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (nine), while the firm also made its first foray into fishing, with a contract for the Fisherman’s Finest vessel America’s Finest.

BWT: Optimarin Inks Deal with Carisbrooke

Optimarin secured a contract with the potential to be the ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist’s biggest ever. The Norwegian business announced that it has signed a fleet agreement with UK shipowner and management company Carisbrooke for its market leading Optimarin Ballast System (OBS). The deal has the potential to encompass OBS retrofits on the firm’s entire fleet of 46 bulk and multipurpose vessels. “This is huge development for us,” said Optimarin CEO Tore Andersen, “agreed with an established and respected shipowner, operator and manager.

Optimarin Wins Sinopacific AHTS Contract

Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin is continuing its strong start to the year, with the news that its Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) has been selected for nine Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group AHTS vessels. The contract win comes on the back of a recent ten unit order from Atlantis Tankers and the firm’s first foray into the fishing sector, with Fisherman’s Finest’s America’s Finest trawler. The nine AHTS vessels, designed by Sinopacific’s Shanghai Design Associates specialist OSV team, will be operated by ESNAAD, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

Rolls-Royce Wins Sinopacific Contract

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (Sinopacific) in Shanghai for a package of power and propulsion equipment and deck machinery. The contract is to equip nine SPA80A Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels to be designed and built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. Each ship will have a bollard pull of 80 metric tons, and be equipped with Bergen diesel engines, main and tunnel thrusters, electrical power system and a deck machinery package from Rolls-Royce.

China’s Shipyards Face Tough Times

As the shipping market continues its prolonged downturn five shipyards have filed for bankruptcy this year, reports SCMP. China's leading private shipyards are gasping while watching their smaller rivals collapse one after another in an industry where state firms are increasingly raising the stakes. Simon Liang, the chairman of Jiangsu-based Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group said that the environment for private companies has never been supportive, but it has taken a turn for the worse recently. Surpassing Japan and South Korea by exported tonnage, China rose to become the world’s top shipbuilding nation during the last trade boom. The triumph came at the expense of relentless, and often inferior, capacity expansion, especially in the private sector.

SINOPACIFIC Wins Bid for 9 AHTS

SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group was recently successful in winning the bid for the construction of 9 AHTS vessels for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. ADNOC firstly launched bids for this new-building project in 2013 and then handed it over to ESNAAD, its wholly-owned subsidiary for follow up. The above contract was signed by both parties in Abu Dhabi and SINOPACIFIC will deliver all 9 vessels in 2017. The design that won the bid is the SPA80A, which is an AHTS with electric propulsion system and a bollard pull of 80mt designed by SDA (Shanghai Design Associates), the SINOPACIFIC OSV design team.

SINOPACIFIC Delivers AHTS Vessel to FEMCO

On April 28, 2015, Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (SINOPACIFIC) held a christening and delivery ceremony for a newly built SPA150 AHTS, constructed for shipowner FEMCO Group. This first SPA150 vessel is not only the first of this design to be delivered in the world, but is also the first of a series of four vessels contracted by FEMCO Group. Ecochlor BWTS Chosen for 8 New Bulkers

Times Navigation, Inc. has selected Ecochlor, Inc. to provide ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for installation on a fleet of eight new CROWN63 (63,500 DWT) ultra-max bulk carriers that will be constructed at SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group. Focus: Heavy Duty Lifting

Safely, efficiently lifting and handling increasingly heavy loads takes a hefty dose of the latest heavy lift products and systems. Rolls-Royce is a ubiquitous and growing force in all matters maritime, inching toward the one-stop-shop premise. It is particularly well known in the deck machinery sector, and it recently signed a deal with Detroit Chile SA to supply offshore cranes to nine PSVs under construction at Detroit Brasil Ltda. shipyard, in Itajaì, Brazil. The order includes nine ship sets of the dual draglink crane, making 18 cranes in total.

Dayang Shipbuilding Delivers 200th Ship

An IMR GPA696 was recently christened and delivered at Dayang Shipbuilding Co. on October 15, 2014, a significant milestone in that the ship is the 200th ship built since the company was founded 10 years ago. MacGregor Secures Deck Machinery Orders from Sinopacific

MacGregor has signed a new series of deck machinery orders for 12 vessels with the China-based Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group. This builds on a track-record of contracts that now stands at 150 shipsets of equipment successfully delivered and installed at Sinopacific yards. The orders were booked into the third quarter 2014 order intake. Van Oord Orders Subsea Rock Installation Vessel

Van Oord has ordered a new subsea rock installation vessel. Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Shanghai will build the vessel at its Ningbo yard in China. The vessel will be delivered in 2016. Subsea rock installation is a proven technique for the protection and stabilisation of offshore structures and pipelines, and is one of Van Oord’s main activities for its clients in the oil and gas industry. The vessel, which has a DP-3 (dynamic positioning) system, will be suitable for installation of a wide range of rock sizes through a fall pipe or a tremie pipe at the side of the vessel. With a deadweight of 14,000 tons, a length of 154 metres and a beam of 28 metres, the vessel can operate in water depths of more than 600 meters. There is accommodation on board for 60 people.

SINOPACIFIC’s Design SPP17A Secures First Order from Mexico

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (SINOPACIFIC), has recently signed a contract with a Mexican shipping company, Naviera Petrolera Integral S.A. de C.V. for the construction of 3 (three) SPP17A vessels. All vessels will be built in SINOPACIFIC’s Zhejiang Shipyard and are expected to be delivered before the end of 2015. Following that, the new vessels will be used by PEMEX, Mexico’s largest governmental owned oil company, in their oil and gas development projects in the Gulf of Mexico. This is the first time that SINOPACIFIC’s own “SP” brand Offshore Support Vessel (OSV-Offshore Support Vessel, including PSV-Platform Support Vessel) has entered the Mexican market; another new success for “SP” brand OSV shortly after its first new-building deal from the Singaporean market.

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Win Order to Construct 4 SPA60 vessels

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (SINOPACIFIC) has recently signed a contract with Singaporean company Vallianz Holdings Limited (Vallianz) for the construction of 4 SPA60 vessels. The vessels will be built in SINOPACIFIC’s Zhejiang Shipyard and all of them are expected to be delivered from the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2015. It is the first order SINOPACIFIC has gained from the Southeast Asian market for its in-house “SP-design”, which is a testimony to the steadily increasing reputation of the “SP-designed” vessel in the industry. SINOPACIFIC is currently one of the few Chinese shipbuilding enterprises that have independent design capabilities from conceptual design through to production.

Sinopacific Orders Rolls-Royce Design, Equipment

Rolls-Royce has announced that it has won an order to provide design and integrated equipment packages for two UT 771 WP platform supply vessels to be built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Co. Ltd (SINOPACIFIC), a shipbuilder in China. The contract incorporates MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series. The UT 771 WP design from Rolls-Royce enhances the ship’s performance due to the signature wave piercing bow, designed to pierce through the waves in rough seas.

Marine Capital and Sinopacific Sign Four Ship Deal

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and Marine Capital Ltd (MCL) have entered an agreement for the construction of four Crown 63 bulkers to be built at Yangzhou Dayang Shipyard, China. The deal, which is worth over $100 million, marks another significant step for MCL in its management activity, the compnay said. It is understood the bulkers, a new model of super fuel-efficient ships with the added advantage of significant reduction in CO2 emissions, are destined for MCL’s vehicle Eclipse Shipping and will be operated by MCL in the open market.

SinoPacific Signs Deal for Six OSVs

The SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group signed a newbuilding contract of 4 SPP35 platform supply vessels (PSV) and a Letter of Intention of 2 large SPP50 PSVs with SLOK Nigeria Ltd. The six vessels are scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2014. This marks the first time that independently designed offshore supply vessel (OSV) products of SINOPACIFIC direct selling to the African market, signifying the growing maturity and acceptance of the SP brand within the market. Over the past two years, SINOPACIFIC has successfully sold 20 similar vessels. Reportedly, the two newly contracted types will be built at SINOPACIFIC’s Dayang Shipyard. “Dayang has been focusing on efficiently building bulk carriers.
