BMT SMART Ltd. (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., an international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, announced the appointment of Laura McKelvie as Product Manager. A University of Southampton graduate in Naval Architecture, Laura has been working with BMT for five years specializing in vessel performance monitoring and analysis. She has been involved in all aspects of the BMT Smartservices product offering including performance analysis and consultancy and product installations on a variety of vessels.

BMT Group Ltd (BMT), an international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced a new commercial operating company which will focus on the provision of high value, innovative vessel performance management and decision support solutions for the maritime industry. BMT SMART Ltd. will draw on years of experience and knowledge from around the BMT group of companies to help accelerate the delivery of BMT’s SmartServices business line, and build a strong presence in the digital shipping markets.

According to the United Nations, the world’s population which currently stands at just over 6.7 billion could reach over nine billion by 2050. This staggering figure will no doubt create a surge in consumerism and a subsequent increase in demand for much larger ships, in order to be sufficiently equipped to support the global trade economy. Furthermore, the need for bigger vessels is being driven by the shipping companies’ desire to reduce costs, in order to weather the economic storm which still remains a worrying challenge.

BMT ARGOSS and International Paint have announced the formation of a partnership that can deliver demonstrable and transparent improvements in performance, efficiency and environmental emissions for the global shipping fleet. By deploying International Paint’s world class fouling control coatings in conjunction with the BMT SMARTSERVICES system, ship owners and operators will be able to benefit from a measurable reduction in energy use and CO2 emissions.
