The U.S. military said on Thursday that it had destroyed four unmanned drones launched by Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen.The U.S. Central Command said on the social media site X that the drones "presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region."The drones were aimed at a coalition vessel and a U.S. warship and "were engaged in self defense over the Red Sea," the statement from the U.S. Central Command said, adding there were no injuries or damage reported to the U.S. or coalition ships.(Reuters - Reporting by Jasper Ward and Dan Whitcomb)

Twenty-five people were injured when a ship came off its holding and tipped on its side in a dry dock in Leith, Scotland on Wednesday, the Scottish Ambulance Service said, with 15 taken to hospital.Ten people were treated and discharged at the scene, the emergency service added in a statement.Pictures posted on Twitter showed a large ship propped up against the wall of a dry dock.

Designed to monitor and benchmark seafarer satisfaction levels via 10 key questions, the report shows a seafarer satisfaction level of 6.44 on a scale of 1 to 10, up 0.02 from the inaugural survey published in May this year. One surprising issue detailed in the second report is that seafarers sometimes dread port calls because of the increase in workload caused by the many audits and inspections when a ship is in dock. This increase in workload at port also caused a drop in satisfaction levels towards shore leave, as the amount of work often eats into the time available for relaxation.

George spent five weeks on a containership while researching "Deep Sea and Foreign Going," which describes the challenging working conditions onboard commercial ships. Her book has received attention both inside and outside the shipping industry for raising awareness of seafarers' welfare.

Sailing enthusiasts all over the world are being kept abreast of conditions in Galway Bay ahead of the grand finale of the Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) thanks to the deployment of a unique eight metre high buoy in the sea off Mutton Island reports Ireland's 'The Connacht Sentinel'. The Galway Buoy is providing up to date information on the progress of the 39,000 mile VOR ahead of the last leg into Galway as well as wind and sea conditions in the vicinity of the finishing line before the conclusion of the nine month race on July 3. Tweets will be provided from the buoy about the progress of the eight boats between the start of the final leg in Lorient on July 1 and the conclusion of the race next to an Irish naval vessel two days later.
