As part of a rebuild and lifetime extension program for five Swedish Navy patrol boats, Swede Ship Marine will install new Kongsberg Maritime sonar systems to replace the previous model SIMRAD SS576 sonar first installed in 1996 on board the Tapper-class (or Bevakningsbåt 80). At 22 meters in length and a displacement of 62 tons, the Tapper-class Fast Patrol Boats operate in extremely shallow water and require sonar capable of high performance in such environments. A Sonardyne Sentinel diver detection sonar is to be supplied as part of an integrated security package for one of the world’s largest megayachts currently under construction in a European shipyard. Sonardyne is working with MarineGuard Systems Ltd, the yacht’s security systems integrator, to provide a Sentinel Intruder Detection Sonar and an electro-hydraulic through-hull deployment system. This will consist of gate valves, extension tubes, coffer dam and associated ancillaries and will enable the immediate automatic deployment and recovery of the Sentinel sonar array.
