Fincantieri Marinette to Build Saudi Warships

A Lockheed Martin-led team has secured a multibillion dollar order from the U.S. Navy to build four Multi-Mission Surface Combatants ships for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of the U.S.’s Foreign Military Sales program.Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM), who has been working with Lockheed Martin, naval architect Gibbs & Cox and more than 800 suppliers in 42 states for the US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program, said it will build the ships at its Marinette yard in Wisconsin.

That move was important because Lind Marine operated a 5-acre shipyard including a 430 foot dry-dock and 1,600 feet of linear pier on Mare Island in Vallejo, CA.

FSRU Toscana Sails Away From Drydocks World

Drydocks World said that Floating Storage Re-gasification Unit (FSRU) Toscana sailed away from Drydocks World – Dubai. The unit, formerly the 138,830-cbm LNG carrier Golar Frost, has been under conversion since June 2009 at Drydocks world Dubai yard for contractor Saipem and owner OLT. The LNG Carrier, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries was converted into a floating LNG receiving terminal of the FSRU type, and will be permanently moored off Livorno, Italy and connected to shore through a gas export pipeline. There are only a few such units in operation around the world.

USS Fort Worth Completes Maiden Voyage

The Freedom-class littoral combat ship 'USS Fort Worth' (LCS 3) arrives in her San Diego homeport. The ship, named for Fort Worth, Texas, the 17th largest city in the United States and the 5th largest city in Texas, was built in Marinette, Wis., and was commissioned in Galveston, Texas, Sept 22. After commissioning, Fort Worth departed Galveston and steamed through the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea and Panama Canal into the Pacific Ocean, completing more than 11,000 miles on her maiden voyage.

US Warship Leaves Builder's Yard for Commissioning

The Navy's littoral combat ship, the future USS Fort Worth sails from Marinette Marine's shipyard for Galveston, Texas. Fort Worth is the third littoral combat ship delivered to the Navy, and the second LCS of the steel, semi-planing, mono-hull Freedom variant is scheduled to be commissioned on Sept. 22, 2012. Prior to sail-away, the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) conducted acceptance trials aboard Forth Worth. INSURV found the ship to be "highly capable, well-built and inspection ready," and recommended the vessel be accepted.

Topaz Launches Crew Boat, Kanoo 40

Topaz Energy and Marine Ltd. through its subsidiary Nico Craft has launched a 98.4 ft crew boat named Kanoo 40 for Kanoo Shipping. The crew boat was designed by Teknicraft, New Zealand and all the engineering and construction work was undertaken by Nico Craft in Fujairah. Nico Craft forms a part of Topaz Engineering, the newly formed engineering division of Topaz Energy and Marine. Kanoo 40 is a medium speed catamaran vessel designed to service vessels within a distance of 50 nautical miles from port.

FBM Patrol Vessels Chosen for Ecuador

FBM Babcock Marine, in partnership with licensed shipyard partner Astilleros De Murueta, was awarded a contract for the construction of three 45 m (150 ft.) patrol vessels for the Coast Guard Command of the Armada de Ecuador (Ecuador Navy). The Armada de Ecuador announced that Astilleros De Murueta, using the FBM Babcock Marine Vigilante patrol vessel, was selected as their choice for their new fleet of patrol vessels. The Vigilante patrol vessel is a registered design from the FBM Protector class, designed as a reliable, capable but cost-effective patrol vessel.

Golar Signs Contract with Keppel Shipyard

Golar LNG Limited is pleased to announce that the company has signed a contract with Keppel Shipyard Limited of Singapore for the first ever conversion of an existing LNG carrier into a LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). Keppel Shipyard Limited is the leading ship repair yard for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carriers outside Japan. Moss Maritime of Norway (a Saipem company) has prepared the conceptual specification for the FSRU and will carry out the design and engineering. When the conversion is completed in the second quarter of 2007, it will be the first of its type in the world. The conversion will be made based on relevant DNV class rules and international standards.

Keppel Signs Landmark LNG Deal

Keppel Shipyard Limited (Keppel Shipyard), a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), has signed a contract with Golar LNG Limited for the conversion of an existing LNG carrier into a floating Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU). The total contract value is approximately Singapore $90 million. When the conversion is completed in the second quarter of 2007, it will be the first of its type in the world. The conversion will be made based on relevant DNV class rules and international standards. Golar LNG will work in partnership with Keppel Shipyard in the engineering, procurement and construction for the project.
