Europort 2019 Begins at Rotterdam Ahoy

The launch of Europort 2019 at the Rotterdam Ahoy yesterday (November 05) saw well-known journalist Geert Maarse bring four of the leading owners in Europe’s special ship segments to grips with the key challenges facing the maritime industries today and tomorrow. Now in its 39th edition, Europort continues to hold its own as one of the most significant events in the maritime calendar, with registered visitors this year reaching 27,000. In 2020, a new convention center will open alongside the existing site, expanding overall space by 50%.

Stena Line Extends Ferries Maintenance Contract

Swedish ferry operator Stena Line has renewed its planned maintenance agreement with MacGregor, part of Cargotec. Stena Line has held MacGregor Onboard Care (MOC) agreements since 2008 and its latest contract takes the number of RoRo vessels covered to 39. ABB Launches Torque Monitoring System

ABB has launched a new torque monitoring system called Torductor Marine, which is aimed at optimizing engine and fuel efficiency in the maritime sector. The new offering will fit into ABB’s Marine Software portfolio, which visualizes the data for the onboard crew and can be shared with the ship’s shore-side support team. The launch of Torductor Marine follows on a successful trial aboard Stena Line’s freight ferry MV Stena Scotia, where sensors tracked the performance of the vessel’s engines. Contactless sensors are mounted facing the propeller shaft with a gap of approximately 1.5mm.

ABB Provides Ferry Terminal Shore-to-Ship Power Units

ABB explains that ferries play a vital role in the public transport infrastructure of many waterside towns and cities. Vessels, which remain in ports for six hours on average, need electricity to run amenities such as heating, ventilation, cooling and galley equipment. Currently the electricity is produced with onboard diesel generators, which are a constant source of noise, vibrations, noxious emissions and the accompanying unpleasant smell. ABB’s fully integrated shore-to-ship power solution was activated at the port of Rotterdam.
