FORAN Takes a Run at North America

Ship Constructor, Military pose some challenges. Madrid’s Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (Sener) is hoping to regain a foothold via its FORAN CAD/CAM software in the North American market, and to use that opening to crack the Big Six military shipyards, landing at least one lucrative long-term contract. But first, it’s going to have get past its chief competition on these shores, Vancouver-based SSI’s ShipConstructor software, CATIA from Dassault Systèmes of France, and Nupas-Cadmatic, jointly owned by Numeriek Centrum Groningen B.V. of the Netherlands and Cadmatic Oy of Finland.

Vard Holdings acquires STX Canada Marine Inc

Vard Holdings Limited (“VARD”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, has acquired STX Canada Marine Inc., a leading marine engineering and design company with more than 30 years history in North America, for approx. NOK 65 million. Headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, with branch offices in Ottawa and Houston and a workforce of over 75 employees, the new acquisition will be fully integrated with Vard Marine Inc. (“Vard Marine”), and operate under the Vard Marine name. The management directed by President Dave McMillan will continue, allowing the new organization to combine the best practices of Norwegian and North American marine engineering and design.

Eastern Launches Another Hornbeck Vessel

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launch of the HOS Black Watch (Hull 208) on Friday June 6, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Black Watch is Eastern’s fourth vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests in attendance. Also attending from Hornbeck was Bill Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management, who spoke about the ongoing long term commitment, partnership and future of the two companies.

Eastern Launches another Hornbeck Offshore Vessel

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launching of the HOS BLACK ROCK (Hull 207) on Friday March 28, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS BLACK ROCK is Eastern’s third vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern Employees and Guests attending despite rainy weather. Attending from Hornbeck was Bill Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management. Bill spoke about the continued long term commitment, partnership and future of the two companies.

UBC Undergrads' CAD Initiative Rewarded by SSI

Wishing to enhance their elegibility for jobs in Western Canada's expanding shipbuilding industry, a group of University of British Columbia (UBC) Mechanical Engineering students approached SSI about further training in the company's ShipConstructor CAD/CAM application. The developers responded by putting on a special training course for them, plus access to the software. The students had found ShipConstructor software to be the industry production standard at the Canadian marine design offices where they were serving internships, for instance at STX Canada Marine and Robert Allan Ltd.

Eastern Delivers PSV to Bravante

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the delivery of the M/V BRAVANTE VI (Hull 156) on Friday February 28, 2014 to Boldini S.A., BRAVANTE GROUP of Brazil. The BRAVANTE V (Hull 155), the first in the series, was delivered three months earlier and is currently on charter in Brazil. The BRAVANTE VI is the second STX SV290 design of five vessels in a series which are all, ABS Classed, AC Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled PSV’s measuring 284’(86.5m) x 60’(18.3m) x 24’-6”(7.5m).

Eastern Shipbuilding Deliver 'HOS Riverbend'

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. says it has delivered the M/V HOS RIVERBEND (Hull 204), their fourth and final vessel in the HOSMAX 300 series, to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC, ahead of schedule. Each vessel is Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled OSV’s. These high-tech vessels feature four Caterpillar 3516C 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier III diesel generator engines each rated at 1,825 kW at 1,800 rpm. Eastern Launches Second HOSMAX 310 Vessel

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launching of the HOS Black Foot (Hull 206) on Friday January 17, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Black Foot is Eastern’s second vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests attending, including Naval Architecture students from the University of New Orleans, La. who were visiting the shipyard. Attending from Hornbeck was Carl G. Annessa, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Eastern Delivers PSV to Brazil’s Bravante Group

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the delivery of the M/V Bravante V (Hull 155) on Friday November 29, 2013, to Boldini S.A., Bravante Group of Brazil. The Bravante V is the first STX SV290 design of five vessels in a series which are all ABS, SOLAS, DPS-2, AC Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled PSV’s measuring 284’(86.5m) x 60’(18.3m) x 24’-6”(7.5m). These high-tech vessels feature four Cummins QSK-60DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged IMO Tier II diesel generator engines each rated at 1825 kW at 1,800 rpm.

Eastern Delivers another Vessel to Hornbeck Offshore

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announce that on Thursday October 10, 2013, the M/V HOS Red Rock (Hull 202) was delivered to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Red Rock was launched on April 19, 2013. Hornbeck’s first vessel, the HOS Red Dawn (Hull 201), was delivered on June 21, 2013 and is currently servicing offshore drilling operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Hornbeck’s third vessel the HOS Renaissance (Hull 203) and is currently at Eastern completing final outfitting, regulatory and DP-2 trials. Delivery of the HOS Renaissance is scheduled for November 2013.

STX Canada Marine Purchases FORAN System

The naval architecture and marine engineering consultant STX Canada Marine (STXM) signed a contract with Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. (SENER) for the license to use the FORAN CAD/CAM System. After the implementation of FORAN in its headquarters in Vancouver, STXM is conducting a learning process during the summer focused in the early design process in 3D. STXM has acquired FORAN licenses covering hull forms, general arrangement and naval architecture, hull structure, machinery and outfitting and drafting and drawing.

Offshore Service Vessels

Flexible fuels, Bold designs ... Eastern Shipbuilding Group has arguably been one of the more progressive and aggressive U.S. builders of high-spec Offshore Service Vessels in recent years, winning a number of high-profile contracts for operators globally. Eastern recently delivered M/V HOS Red Dawn and christened M/V HOS Renaissance, both for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. HOS Red Dawn (H201) – now delivered – was launched on February 15, 2013. HOS Red Rock (H202) was launched April 19, 2013, and is currently at Eastern completing final outfitting, regulatory and DP-2 trials.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the christening and launching of the M/V Bravante VI for Boldini S.A., Bravante Group of Brazil. This is the second vessel in a series of five. The event was held on August 5, 2013 at Eastern’s Nelson Street Facility with hundreds of Eastern’s Employees and Guests. Attending from Bravante were Renato and Regina Nascimento, Nuno Neves and Rubia Amaral, William Grutter, Cristiana Marsillac and Luis Harduim along with several members that traveled from Brazil witnessing the launch of the second of five Platform Supply Vessels under contract with Eastern.

Eastern Shipbuilding Launches New Hornbeck Vessel

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the christening and subsequent launching of the M/V HOS Red Rock for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern Employees and Guests. Attending from Hornbeck was William “Bill” Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management, and Scott Siberski, Manager of Projects, along with 10 senior members and vessel officers of the Hornbeck Team witnessing the launch of the second of ten HOSMAX Offshore Supply Vessels under contract with Eastern.

Finnish Shipbuilding and Arctic Operations

The STX Turku Shipyard in Finland recently lost the order for a third Oasis class cruise ship and an option for a fourth to ”sister” shipyard STX France, when neither the owner, the financially troubled STX Group, nor the Finnish government wanted to inject a missing $64.3m to the capital of the shipyard. The yard is currently building two 97,000gt cruise ships for TUI Cruises. In January the shipyard delivered the world’s first LNG-fuelled big size passenger-car ferry, the Viking Grace for Baltic ferry operator Viking Line.

Eastern Shipbuilding Launches the M/V Bravante V for Boldini, S.A.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. christened and launched the M/V Bravante V for Boldini S.A. of Brazil. The event was held on March 21, 2013 at Eastern’s Nelson Street facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests. Attending were Renato and Regina Nascimento, William Wueman and William Grutter along with several members that traveled from Brazil witnessing the launch of the first of five Platform Supply Vessels under contract with Eastern. Mr. Nacimento’s wife Regina had the honor of christening the vessel.

U.S.'s Eastern Shipbuilding Christen, Launch Hornbeck OSV

Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) 'Red Dawn' has been launched from the Eastern Shipbuilding Group's Allanton facility. Attending from Hornbeck was Todd Hornbeck, President & CEO,  and Carl Annessa, Executive Vice President & COO, along with 12 senior members of the Hornbeck Team witnessing the launch of the first of ten HOSMAX Offshore Supply Vessels under contract with Eastern. Captain Billy Haugh, who will be taking the vessel to sea as Master once it delivers later this year, and his wife Shandale had the honor of christening the vessel.

D'Arcinoff Group Consortium Announces $4.6 Billion Project

D'Arcinoff Group, Inc. and its consortium partners will deploy the first phase of the $4.6 billion D’Arcinoff Group Energy Program (DGE), an integrated synthetic fuel, power generation and distribution project. D’Arcinoff Group expects to install its first phase 40,000 barrel-per-day alternative fuel facility in Hudspeth County, Texas, to be operational by the end of 2016. DGE is an environmentally clean, natural gas and biomass to liquid fuel and power generation initiative. Construction Engineering Work for OFSV Started At Vancouver Shipyards

Vancouver Shipyards (VSY) has started design work under the Construction Engineering Contract for the Canadian Coast Guard’s Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV). This contract will take a total of ten months to complete and lead to a build contract in early 2014. 1. Initial Design Phase – elements of the design will be matured and an initial cost model developed. 2. Functional Design Phase – design for spaces and systems will be completed, equipment identified, suppliers engaged and regulatory approval for the design obtained. 3. Production Design Phase – a detailed 3D model of the ship will be started to define final requirements for material and layout of spaces and systems.

Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers Second Tiger Shark Class Vessel

Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc. announced the early delivery of the Sisuag, the second of three  292-foot Tiger Shark Class Offshore Support Vessels, to Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC of New Orleans, La. Launched in October, the Sisuag is a DP II, SOLAS-approved, FIFI 1 Classed, AC diesel-electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled OSV. This high-tech vessel features four Cummins QSK60-DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier II diesel generator engines, rated 1825 Kw at 1,800 rpm.

STX to Design Canadian Icebreaker

STX Canada Marine Awarded Contract to Design the Canadian Coast Guard’s New Polar Icebreaker. STX Canada Marine is pleased to announce that they have been awarded the contract to design the new polar icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans announced today the award on behalf of the Government of Canada. The work will be carried out at STX Canada Marine’s Vancouver office and be completed by the end of 2013. The polar icebreaker will be named after former Prime Minister John George Diefenbaker (CCGS John G. Diefenbaker).
