Making Connections Underwater: Nordsee Ost Windfarm

FoundOcean is currently working with RWE Innology on the 48-jacket Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm in the German sector of the North Sea. The project teams are undertaking onshore trials to investigate effective ways of speeding up the foundation installation process. One option under consideration is moving to a subsea connector that will allow the grout material, Masterflow® 9500, to be delivered directly to the annulus. Freudenberg acquires Vector Technology Group

Freudenberg Oil & Gas expands its position and expertise in the upstream segment of the oil and gas market with innovator in offshore sealing solutions. Freudenberg Oil & Gas announced that on January 11, 2013, 100% of the shares of Vector Technology Group, a major global supplier of high integrity sealing solutions for the oil and gas industry, were acquired by parent company Freudenberg Group, headquartered in Weinheim, Germany. The shares were acquired from the private equity firm HitecVision headquartered in Stavanger, Norway.

Expro Wins £7.3m Power Connector Contract

Expro has been awarded its single biggest power connector order to date with a contract worth in the region of £7.3million. Aker Solutions, of Norway, has ordered high-voltage subsea connectors for the subsea gas compression system the company is developing for Statoil at the Åsgard field, which is located 124 miles offshore of Norway, in the Halten bank of the Norwegian Sea. BP, CSO Aker Marine Team For Unique GOM Installation

CSO Aker Marine Contractors, Inc. (CAMC), one of the Houston-based entities of the Coflexip Stena Offshore Group, announced the successful mooring of Diamond Offshore's rig the Ocean Confidence using a preset taut leg mooring with polyester rope and CAMC's SEPLA anchoring system while under contract to BP. The mooring location is in the Gulf of Mexico in 6,385 ft. (1,946 m). The project represents a significant advancement in deepwater mooring. BP, CAMC and Diamond Offshore set several Gulf of Mexico records with this project. The rig is the first MODU in the GOM to use polyester moorings on all 8 legs and the first rig to be moored employing SEPLAs on all 8 legs, a technology developed and patented by CSO Aker.

What About Cuba? Political allegiance notwithstanding, continuing unrest and war in the energy critical Middle East continues to wreak havoc with world oil prices, with consumers around the world struggling to keep up with fast escalating gasoline prices. While (at press time) the benchmark prices for a barrel of crude have settled just under $40, the situation has spurred new exploration and production ventures, one such speculation in the Gulf of Mexico off of Cuba. According to a recent report in The Economist (June 5, 2004 edition, page 48), Spain's Repsol has moved into position a Deep Water drilling rig off of the country's northwest coast with the intention of drilling two wildcat wells in what could amount to a successful attempt to energize a failing economy.
