Ocean Yield has agreed to purchase four LR1 product tankers, to be constructed at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China.The vessels will be built with a design enabling them to be converted to dual-fuel operation with methanol as fuel. Inspection, certification and consulting engineering multinational RINA said it is teaming up with shipbuilding group Fincantieri to develop synergies in the field of decarbonization, with a focus on alternative fuels, carbon capture and renewable energies in the shipping sector.Under their signed signed a memorandum of understanding, the two Italian firms will partner in initiatives related to technology scouting, the analysis, study and simulation of new fuels and energy vectors - in particular hydrogen and ammonia - and carbon capture.

Hempel Records Solid 2021, 10th Consecutive Quarter of Organic Growth

Hempel continued its growth trajectory in 2021, ending the year with 5.9 percent organic growth, following 10 consecutive quarters of organic growth. Total growth was 15.1 percent, despite supply chain challenges across the coatings industry. The 5.9 percent organic growth was the highest in more than 10 years, driven by strong performance in the Marine and Infrastructure segments, and stronger than expected in the face of unprecedented raw material cost increases and shortages.

Oldendorff Testing Second-generation Biofuels

German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers announced a trial voyage using biofuel for the CBH Group, the largest agricultural cooperative in Western Australia, is being performed on the Edwine Oldendorff from Australia to Vietnam. The vessel loaded 30,000 tonnes of sustainably certified malting barley from the Albany Grain Terminal in Western Australia for discharge in Vietnam using biofuel, supplied by BP. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has signed partnership agreements with four recent participants in the annual PortXL innovation programme. The products developed by these promising start-ups range from compact tulip-shaped wind turbines to blockchain applications for freight tracking. Arriving at the Farmer’s Market this morning I made the decision to grill some hand cut rib eye with fresh vegetables and potatoes later that evening. I searched several of the local farm kiosks to find the mix I wanted and then reached into my pocket to pay for my choices. The price for all this local fare is not competitive with Cosco or Walmart, but I know the vegetables are organically grown without chemicals and the local beef is grass fed. The price point may not be right but the effort supports local business and the farmers who work hard to provide us sustainable products and quality.

Wärtsilä to Acquire Hamworthy plc

Wärtsilä Corporation reached agreement with the Board of Hamworthy plc, a UK listed engineering company focussed on the marine and oil and gas sectors, in regards to a recommended cash offer for the acquisition of Hamworthy. Under the terms of the acquisition Hamworthy shareholders will receive 825 pence in cash for each Hamworthy share valuing Hamworthy's entire issued and to be issued share capital at approximately GBP 383 million. This represents an EV / LTM EBITDA multiple of 14.3x as per 30 September 2011. The acquisition is conditional on the approval by the shareholders of Hamworthy.

Hapag-Lloyd Launches Emissions Calculator

The EcoCalc is one of the few emissions calculators in liner shipping to cover not only the ocean leg, but also the emissions of the other modes of transport for the pre-carriage and on-carriage. With the launch of the new EcoCalc, Hapag-Lloyd reports that it has become the first shipping company in the world to introduce an emissions calculator that not only shows CO2 emissions, but also those of sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM10) for a given container transport. In addition, EcoCalc is one of the few emissions calculators in liner shipping to cover not only the ocean leg, but also the emissions of the other modes of transport for the pre-carriage and on-carriage.
