American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI) have signed an agreement that establishes a framework for strengthening technology research and development in the shipbuilding and marine industries.The two organizations will cooperate in the use of research facilities and equipment, as well as testing and certification. Samsung Heavy and MISC Develop Floating CO2 Storage Unit
Samsung Heavy Industries has received basic certification for a floating CO2 storage unit (FCSU) from DNV.The FCSU, jointly developed by Samsung Heavy Industries and MISC, is 330 meters long and 64 meters wide, and has a high-pressure tank capacity that can store 100,000 cubic meters of liquefied CO2 at -50 degrees Celsius or less.The injection module mounted on the upper part of the hull secures the ability to send five million tons (MTPA) of CO2 per year to the depths of the seabed.
Japanese Partners Aim to Promote Standardized Shore Power Systems
A group of Japanese organisations have claimed a world-first with their initiative to advance standardized, zero emission shore power systems.Japanese ports and coastal industrial zones are responsible for about 60% of the country's CO2 emissions and are therefore a target for decarbonization, with Japan aiming to be carbon neutral by 2050.
