Decarbonizing Shipping: DNV, AL Team Up for Onboard CCS Study

Classification society DNV has entered into a Joint Development Project (JDP) with AL Group and its Singapore company Asiatic Lloyd Maritime LLP to explore the feasibility of carbon capture and storage (CCS) on board AL’s 7,100TEU containership and Kamsarmax bulk carrier newbuildings.Under the JDP, DNV will cooperate with AL on a techno-economic study of CCS on board the vessels using DNV's FuelPath to assess the economic potential of the different fuel and technology strategies.

MHI to Establish LNG Project Management Department

Effective June 1, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will establish LNG Project Management Department, within the Environmental and Chemical Plant Project Management Division of the Company's Engineering Headquarters. The new department will be dedicated to market exploration of LNG (liquefied natural gas) related business opportunities. By establishing the new unit, MHI aims to expeditiously respond to the growing demand for LNG related facilities that is being fueled by rapid expansion of shale gas production in the U.S. The department will also explore business opportunities in the LNG supply chain* by integrally and cross-divisionally overseeing the company's LNG related engineering activities.

Cummins Listed Among Top 500 Energy Innovators

Cummins Inc. wins place on InformationWeek 500 list, especially for adoption of its electronic data-based Order Management Sytem (OMS). During 2011, while Cummins was growing from a $13 billion to $18 billion company, it was important to harness business innovations to support it. The Order Management System (OMS) was one innovation that played a key role. Cummins Emission Solutions (CES) implemented the OMS in 2011, allowed for rapid expansion of the CES business, a key factor in the growth of the entire enterprise. This impact of the OMS was a primary reason that Cummins received the InformationWeek award. CES was launched in 2002 and in just 10 years ago, the business has grown to a $1 billion business within Cummins.

Admiral Jeremiah Joins Todd Shipyards Corporation Board of Directors

Todd Shipyards Corporation announced that Admiral David E. Jeremiah, U.S. Navy (Ret.) was elected to the Board of Directors of the Company at its annual meeting of shareholders on Friday, September 12, 2003. Admiral Jeremiah is President of Technology Strategies & Alliances Corporation, a strategic advisory and investment banking firm engaged primarily in the aerospace, defense, telecommunications and electronics industries. Prior to his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1994, he was Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1990 to 1994 and Commander-in-Chief of the United States Pacific Fleet from 1987 to 1990. Admiral Jeremiah serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wackenhut Services, Inc.
