Antwerp Port Test Center for Drones by SAFIR Consortium

The SAFIR consortium, a group of 13 public and private organisations, has been selected by Single European Sky ATM Research Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) to demonstrate integrated Drone Traffic Management for a broad range of drone operations in Belgium.Antwerp Port Authority said in a press release that  the goal of the SAFIR project is to contribute to the EU regulatory process for drones and drive forward the deployment of interoperable, harmonised and standardised drone services across Europe.The SAFIR consortium (Safe and Flexible Integration of Initial U-space Services in a Real Environment) consists of the following organisations: Unifly, Amazon Prime Air, Belgocontrol, DronePort, Proximus, the Port of Antwerp, Helicus, SABCA, Elia, High Eye, C-Astral, Tekever and Aveillant.

South Korea's Daewoo & SKT in 'Smart Ship' R&D Project

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), the world's second-largest shipbuilder, and Korea's top mobile carrier, SK Telecom (SKT), have teamed up to develop ICT-based "smart ships" reports the Korea Times. SKT has signed a memorandum of understanding with DSME to cooperate in a research and development (R&D) venture to build the high-tech, next-generation ships. The vessel will be equipped with a global telecommunication network based on navigation and monitoring systems, while all the on-board services will be converged onto a single network. Under the alliance, SKT will provide ICT guidelines, optimized blueprints and R&D resources, while DSME will share the needs of ship owners and smart ship-related research achievements.

Transas to Supply VTMIS For Bulgarian Gov’t

Transas Marine Ltd. UK has been announced as the winner of the international tender for a large-scale VTMIS (Vessel Traffic Management and Information System), including GMDSS and UAIS subsystems sought by the Bulgarian government. On November 30, a multi-million contract was signed in Sofia between Transas Marine and the Ministry of Finance of Bulgaria, which was endorsed for financing by the European Community. The tender has been held under the framework of the Phare programme aimed at the financial support of countries of Central and East Europe in their preparations for joining the European Union.
