PPG Industries announced that it has completed the previously announced acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Canal Supplies Inc. (CSI), a privately-owned, Panama-based distributor of protective and marine coatings to customers in Central America. Financial terms were not disclosed. “The acquisition of CSI enhances our ability to supply customers throughout Central America and meet growing demand for our protective and marine products in this growth market,” said Tim Knavish, PPG vice president, protective and marine coatings.

Donation supports students pursuing corrosion-, coatings-related degrees. The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $10,000 to create two annual scholarships provided through the NACE International Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity affiliated with NACE International, The Corrosion Society. Two students pursuing postsecondary academic degrees related to corrosion or coatings each received a $5,000 scholarship on behalf of PPG. Azra Turajlic of Fort Worth, Texas, a freshman majoring in petroleum engineering at Louisiana State University.

PPG Industries announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Hi-Temp Coatings Technology Co., Inc., a privately-owned supplier of high-temperature-resistant and insulative coatings, based in Boxborough, Mass. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed. Hi-Temp is a global supplier of coatings that withstand extreme temperatures to protect both carbon steel and stainless steel substrates.

PPG Industries’ protective and marine coatings (PMC) business was awarded a five-year contract by the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command (MSC) to continue providing coatings, solvents and technical services to its global fleet of 110 ships. Tim Knavish, PPG vice president, protective and marine coatings, said the contract extends PPG’s commitment to serving the U.S. Navy and other military services. “PPG is proud to provide products and services that deliver value and help protect this country’s most critical military assets,” he said. PPG previously supplied coatings to MSC, but this contract is the first to include the PSX brand of polysiloxane coatings.

PPG Industries’ protective and marine coatings (PMC) business is celebrating the 20th anniversary of polysiloxane coatings, for which PPG was granted the first patent on Jan. 4, 1994. Tim Knavish, PPG vice president, protective and marine coatings, said polysiloxane coatings have revolutionized the protective and marine coatings industry, expanding into applications such as civil infrastructure, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), government, water and wastewater, petrochemical, offshore, rail, power generation and wind energy.

PPG Industries announced that Diane M. Kappas has been appointed vice president, Americas, for the protective and marine coatings (PMC) business, effective Dec. 1. The company also announced that Jane Valenta has been appointed to Kappas’ previous role of vice president, environment, health and safety (EHS), effective Dec. Kappas will assume full responsibility for PPG’s PMC business in the United States, Canada and Latin America, and she will report to Tim Knavish, global vice president, PMC.

PPG Industries announced it has started manufacturing protective and marine coatings (PMC) at the company’s facility in Ostrów Wielkopolski, Poland. The facility, which previously produced architectural coatings and was part of PPG’s January 2012 acquisition of Dyrup A/S, now produces PMC products for the construction, petrochemical, shipbuilding and energy industries. “The Ostrów manufacturing plant is a key part of our strategy to grow and expand in this region," said Tim Knavish, PPG vice president, protective and marine coatings.
