Soles Joins Glosten Associates

Peter Soles has joined The Glosten Associates as a Marine Consultant and will be supporting the firm’s ocean engineering and marine logistics projects. “Peter brings a broad knowledge of marine transportation policy, oceangoing vessel management and operation, voyage and cargo logistics, navigation, and tug/towing operations,” said Justin Morgan, PE, Glosten Principal. Prior to joining Glosten, Soles contributed to marine projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska for over 13 years as a tug operator and marine operations manager for two local marine transportation companies.

RigNet Appoint Molly McGuirk US Region Manager

RigNet, Inc., provider of managed remote communications to the oil and gas industry, makes management appointments. The company appoint Molly McGuirk as Region Manager, United States,  & Mike Neugebauer as Director, Global Operations & QHSE. McGuirk, who has been serving as director – global operations & QHSE, will have profit-and-loss responsibility for RigNet's operations in the United States, both offshore and onshore, as well as for international operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Global Industries Makes Additions

Global Industries, Ltd. announces the appointment of Craig Milburn as operations manager for Global Divers, based in New Iberia, LA. As Operations Manager, Milburn is responsible for diving operations, personnel, equipment, and the diving facilities at the New Iberia facility. Milburn joined Global in 1982 and has held numerous positions as a diver, Supervisor, Superintendent, and project manager domestically and in Asia Pacific. Previously, he attended the University of Oregon in Architecture and the Commercial Diving Center in Los Angeles. Bill Alexander has been appointed Business Development Manager - North America and is based in Houston.

MMS Supports Workshop on Effects of Wave Energy

Scientists from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) will join colleagues from federal and state government, academia, and industry to examine potential effects of wave energy at the Ecological Effects of Wave Energy Development in the Pacific Northwest Workshop at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon, on October 11-12, 2007. MMS is a major co-sponsor of the scientific workshop along with Oregon State University, the Oregon Department of Land Development and Conservation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-Fisheries, Communication Partnership for Science and the Sea, the Oregon Wave Energy Trust, several Pacific Northwest utility companies and others.

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Award Conservation Grants

The Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises Ocean Fund awarded $796,000 on March 30 in 15 new grants to marine conservation and environmental organizations, including a $100,000 grant to The Conservation Fund for its Alaska land preservation program and a $100,000 grant to Conservation International for its campaign to conserve Caribbean biodiversity. Almost $9 million has been awarded to 64 non-profit organizations working to protect the marine environment since the fund’s inception in 1996. The mission of the Ocean Fund is to support efforts to restore and maintain a healthy marine environment, minimize the impact of human activity on this environment, and promote awareness of ocean and coastal issues and respect for marine life.
