Boskalis Nets Three Dredging Deals in Germany

Dutch dredging giant Boskalis has secured three dredging contracts worth 45 million euros (around USD 53,1 million) in total for coastal protection and port maintenance activities in Germany.The first contract was awarded by the German Waterways and Shipping Office WSA Weser-Jade-Nordsee. It is for the upgrade of the existing coastal defense on the island of Wangerooge for flood protection to the island’s residents.Boskalis said the project would be executed with a local German partner and involves the reinforcement of the groins and revetment for which 200,000 tons of rock will be used.

Damen Delivers Fire Fighting Vessel to City of Bremen

Damen Shipyards has recently delivered the ‘Bremen 1’ to the City of Bremen (Germany) to replace its 1975-built predecessor. Both the local police force and the fire brigade will use the Damen Fire Fighting Vessel 2406 (FFV) for emergency response. The police will patrol the Port of Bremen and the Weser River with the newbuild. The Bremen 1 measures 24m x 6m. Its three waterjets and single bow thruster are largely responsible for the ship’s excellent manoeuvrability and generate a top-speed of 40 km/h.
