Rickmers-Linie Carries Bangladesh-Made Ferry to Denmark

Floating craft like motor yachts, sailing yachts or catamarans are quite a regular sight on Rickmers-Linie vessels. However, the ferry which Rickmers-Linie carried from Bangladesh to Denmark on board the long-term charter vessel Baltic Winter is remarkable. It is the first ferry built by a Bangladesh shipyard for European owners and will be put in service by Hundested-Rørvig Færgefart AS across the fjord after which the ferry is named: Isefjord. At a length of 49.80m and a breadth of 11.20m, the ferry’s carrying capacity is 28 cars and 147 passengers.

A short-sea trade RoRo passenger ship built by Western Marine Shipyard Ltd., is the most advanced built in the yard so far. This is the first time Bangladesh has exported a passenger ship to the European market, in compliance with the highest standards of  modern technology & safety. Isefjord waas built for Danish owner Hundested Rorvig Faergefart to carry 147 passengers & 28 units of vehicle on a Danish coastal route. She is a fully-automated vessel constructed under class Bureau Veritas rules…

Bangladesh Shipbuilding

According to a May 18 report from The New Nation, Bangladesh’s Industry Minister, Dilip Barua, said on May 16 that the growing shipbuilding sector would help turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country through earning more foreign exchanges for the country.
