ClassNK Updates Its GHG Emissions Management Tool

ClassNK has released new features for its GHG Emissions Management Tool, "ClassNK ZETA (Zero Emission Transition Accelerator)".ClassNK ZETA is a tool for visualizing GHG emissions and CII ratings of ships and is used for more than 5,000 ships. Based on data submitted to "ClassNK MRV Portal", a system for fuel consumption reporting in compliance with regulations such as IMO-DCS and EU-MRV, ClassNK ZETA provides current status and simulation for reducing GHG emissions from ships and supports response to various emission reduction requirements.

Star Bulk Takes Delivery and Expands Vessels

The M/V "Star Beta" a Capesize vessel of 174,691 dwt built in 1993. Star Beta has been committed to a two-year Time Charter at a gross daily rate of USD 106,500. The "Star Zeta" a Supramax vessel of 52,994 dwt built in 2003. Star Zeta is currently under a pre-existing time charter employment contract at a gross daily rate of USD 30,500 until the end of March 2008; thereafter, the vessel will enter into a five-year Time Charter until March 2013 at a gross daily rate of USD 39,500. The M/V "Star Delta", a Supramax vessel of 52,434 dwt built in 2000. Star Delta is currently under a pre-existing time charter employment at a gross daily rate of USD 25,800 until early May 2009.

Star Bulk Announces Charter Agreement

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. announced that the vessel I Duckling (to be renamed Star Zeta) has been committed to a five-year time charter agreement at a gross daily rate of USD 39,500. The charter will commence in March 2008 when the current one-year time charter at a gross daily rate of $30,500 expires. Star Zeta is a 2003-built Supramax vessel of 52,994 dwt.

BIMCO Signs Anti-Drug Smuggling Agreement with Cyprus

On 23 September, BIMCO established its fifteenth anti-drug smuggling agreement when the latest Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed in Nicosia between BIMCO and the Cypriot Department of Customs & Excise. With the increasing frequency in the movement of illicit drugs to North America and Europe, combined with the increased attention given to maritime security since the tragic events of 9/11, the importance of such agreements with customs authorities becomes ever more essential for shipowners and customs administrations alike. "These agreements represent a commitment from both sides to cooperate in the battle against drug smugglers" said Ove Tvedt, Deputy Secretary General of BIMCO.
