Comrod Launches New Multifunction Antenna System

July 29, 2002

Norway-based Comrod A/S has developed a new Multifunction Antenna System – MAS1. It allows simultaneous transmitting and multireceiving through a single cable and antenna – at the same time. Its ultimate compact design using latest technology makes the MAS1 unique compared to other multi-function antennas on the market. A regular COMROD VHF or COMROD combined VHF/cellular antenna is mounted onto a wide-band preamplifier (MAS1/A.BI). By this, all frequency bands are combined into one output port and only one antenna cable is required. At the other end of the cable, a filter unit (MAS1/F) is connected. This unit divides the signals into its desired connection port. The power to the preamplifier is fed from the filter unit through the coaxial cable, meaning that no power cable is necessary either. The fact that the signals are preamplified close to the antenna, gives a minimum of loss through the antenna cable, providing a much stronger and cleaner signal at the filter unit and thus for the individual applications. The new MAS1 can receive Navtex, DGPS, AM/FM Radio, SSB, Weatherfax and VHF, as well as transmit on VHF. Optionally, also cellular GSM can be received and transmitted. Like all COMROD Antennas, the MAS1 has all elements completely enclosed in polyurethane foam within a fibre glass tube. This means no condensation and no corrosion, thus avoiding noise at the transmitter due to corrosion at the connecting area. At the same time, the MAS1 fixes the conductor firmly and thus eliminates the risk of breakage due to vibrations.
