Bjørn Kjærand Haugland announced as new CEO of the climate network Norway 203040.

“It is extremely motivating for me to lead this business-led climate initiative that gathers companies with the most ambitious climate commitments in Norway to take a leading role in the transition to the low-emission society,” said CEO Bjørn Kjærand Haugland in Norway 203040. “Here in Norway there’s a strong focus on green growth, and the maritime sector promises to be a key area of transformation and job creation, especially in the context of the challenges presented by declining oil and gas production off the Norwegian continental shelf.”

Norway 203040 has an industrial perspective; playing a role in the maritime industry, an industry that in turn is the foundation of the Norwegian economy. With expertise in offshore and leadership in low-and-zero emission transport including battery-powered ferries, LNG-fueled feeder and offshore vessels, and hydrogen-related projects, Norway is positioned to turn climate challenges into opportunities.

“We work with top management and see that gathering companies from different sectors drives innovation. Therefore, it has been crucial that several of the companies that have come the longest have joined the coalition,” said Haugland. Haugland comes from the position as the Chief Sustainability Officer in DNV GL.

The Network
Corporate cooperation is interwoven into the Norwegian DNA, and Norway 203040 is no different, enjoying C-Suite support from many leading organizations across various sectors, including DNV GL, Equinor, Kongsberg, Hurtigruten and Umoe, to name a few. The purpose is to identify new business opportunities on the way to the low-emission society and be a driving force in reaching Norway’s climate goals by 2030, leveraging trusted Norwegian institutions, world-leading maritime and offshore competence, and distinctive, good-natured, collaborative business culture.

“We wanted to strengthen the outcome of the network by hiring a CEO,” said Jens Ulltveit-Moe, CEO of Umoe, the founder and chairman of Norway 203040.  “Our voice has not been strong enough, so we need to strengthen it. I am glad that Bjørn is now entering the role of CEO and I am confident that hiring him will lift us to new levels.”

Idar Kreutzer, CEO of Finance Norway and board member in Norway 203040, concurs. “The business community plays a crucial role in the transition to the low-emission society, and in the efforts to develop green competitiveness. Therefore, it is important that some of the companies in Norway that have come furthest have joined forces in the climate network Norway 203040. As Bjørn Kjærand Haugland now joins as CEO, it will further increase the power of the work and reinforce the best practice sharing and targeted collaboration between the companies.”

“As part of its efforts to unlock low-carbon growth in the maritime sector, the Norwegian government is supporting this process through the Green Coastal Shipping Program, which brings industries and state departments together to implement a new maritime strategy,” said Haugland. “The primary goal of the programme is for Norway to be a leader in environmentally sustainable and efficient coastal shipping.”
