Smit Orders 11 Damen Tugs

Smit and Damen recently signed contracts for a total of 11 vessels of 3 different designs during the Europort Maritime Exhibition. It was reported that 3 Damen Multipurpose Pusher Tugs, with a bollard pull of approx. 25 tons; 6 Damen ASD Tugs 2810, with a bollard pull of approx. 60 tons; and 2 Damen ASD Tugs 3211, with a bollard pull of approx. 70 tons are under contract.

The vessels will be built at Damen yards in Romania, Vietnam and The Netherlands and the deliveries are scheduled to take place as from 2008 up to 2010. In addition to these 11 tugs, another 12 vessels are presently under construction for Smit. This order brings the total number of Damen tugs and workboats awarded by Smit to Damen since 1969 up to 72 units.
