OSD-IMT to Supply New Tugs for Indonesia

September 3, 2019

Marine engineering specialist OSD-IMT will supply three shallow-draft tugs to operate along the Barito river in the South Kalimantan area of Indonesia.

OSD-IMT announced the new contract for at least three OSD-IMT7402 shallow draft tugs for PT Patria Maritim Perkasa (subsidiary of PT United Tractors Pandu Engineering) shipyard in Batam, Indonesia.

The 18 tonnes bollard pull, shallow draft, conventional tugs will be equipped to assist 300 foot barges berthing and unberthing and for towing these barges along the Barito river in the South Kalimantan area of Indonesia.

During the dry season, the upstream part of the river has a water depth of only around 2.5 to three meters. For this reason, the design draft is being kept at two meters.

The 23-metre LOA OSD-IMT7402 tugs will each be fitted with a towing hook aft. A push bow with a triple vertical D-fender will be integrated in the ships’ structures. The design offers accommodation for ten persons arranged in two quadruple and two single cabins.

The tugs will be equipped with two main diesel engines connected to drive shafts and conventional fixed propellers with high efficiency nozzles. This configuration allows for an ahead bollard pull of 18 tonnes and a free running speed of around 10 knots.

PT Patria Maritim Perkasa shipyard will construct the tugs and thereafter the vessels will be operated by Cikarang based PT Patria Maritime Lines. The first of the three vessels is scheduled for delivery in March 2020. It will be Indonesian flagged and classed by Bureau Veritas. PT Patria Maritim Perkasa intends to build more OSD-IMT7402 tugs at a later date.
