Cruise Passenger Medevaced off N.C. Coast
The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 35-year-old man Tuesday from a cruise ship approximately 180 miles east of Nags Head, N.C.
The captain of the 965-foot cruise ship Norwegian Gem notified watchstanders at the Fifth District Command Center at 2:21 p.m. stating a passenger was in medical distress.
Coast Guard watchstanders launched crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 5 p.m., hoisted the passenger and took him back to the air station. The man was then transferred to an ambulance crew who took him to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City where he was listed in stable condition.
