Marathon Ashland Petroleum Garners USCG Award
July 9, 2002
Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC’s (MAP) Marine Transportation group has received the U.S. Coast Guard’s prestigious William M. Benkert Award for Environmental Excellence.
Accepting the silver award on behalf of MAP Marine Transportation was Bruce Tilton, manager, Marine Transportation. “This is indeed an honor, and we are truly thrilled to receive this award, says Tilton. “Because this is the U.S. Coast Guard’s premier national award, recognizing marine environmental excellence, the competition is fierce- there are rigorous and demanding standards that a company has to meet to be considered,” adds Tilton. “This is the first year we applied for the award, and to win it is a great honor and privilege.”
Tilton accepted the award from Coast Guard Rear Admiral Paul J. Pluta, assistant commandant for Marine Safety, Security and Environmental Protection during the American Petroleum Institute’s Tanker Conference recently in La Jolla, Calif.
