MOSS: Portable Survey System

October 27, 2015

Developed and manufactured for marine surveyors and naval architects by Netherlands-based TARKA-SYSTEMS, the MOSS is a portable measurement solution for monitoring and surveying.
According to the developer, the MOSS System features a pragmatic design, clear functionality and the ability of reading a wide range of sensor inputs.

The functionality of the MOSS can be applied for marine and offshore applications such as salvage monitoring and survey, marine survey of damaged vessels, deadweight survey, inclining experiments, dry docking monitoring, floating dock monitoring, semi-submersible monitoring, float-on/off monitoring, heavy lift, and load out. And for special uses, the basic system can be extended based on clients’ requests.
The MOSS model is a handheld unit that provides the readout and storage of connected sensors. The sensor value is gathered, displayed and stored on a USB drive. Average values can be calculated and displayed during the measurements.
The MOSS system has a modular setup so it can read the most common sensor input. When the data output type of a sensor is known the raw value can be read. With client specific software the engineering value can be calculated and displayed on the display.
Available options with the available modules:
In addition to the standard size of the gathering/visualization modules in the MOSS larger modules are also available.
The basic MOSS-Freeboard system comes with an ultrasonic distance sensor with 50 feet. With an incline sensor the MOSS can be used for inclinations test. Incline sensor can be of any type mA, Volt or MODBUS. When the sensor has the MODBUS protocol it can be combined with other sensors with the same protocol. So for special measurement a FREEBOARD and an INCLINE sensor can be combined and displayed together on the MOSS. With a pressure sensor with mA output the MOSS be applied for pressure test with pipe laying applications.
