ME Production Receives Two Scrubber Orders

August 31, 2015

ME Production subsidiary Marine Exhaust Technology has been awarded a new contract for the DFDS vessel Finlandia sailing on the route Rosyth-Zeebrugge. The scrubber contract includes design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation.

Additionally, MET has signed a newbuilding contract with the shipyard Balenciaga S.A. in Spain for a new cargo vessel. The contract includes an Inline Hybrid scrubber system. The system is designed with an integrated silencer and does not require a bypass. Because of the small size and low weight of the scrubber, the cargo space and ship stability will not be affected.

The systems are scheduled to be delivered late 2015 and in the beginning of 2016. Once installed, the scrubbers will allow the vessels to meet the low sulphur ECA requirements when burning high sulphur heavy oil.

At MET we are convinced that scrubbers will become the most commonly used alternative solution to low sulphur fuel worldwide. Even though bunker prices follow the overall reduction of oil prices, the gap between marine gas oil and heavy fuel oil is still 200$/ton fuel, and this gives ship owners a significant economic incentive to invest in scrubber systems.
