Professional Society Honors Navy Engineer

The National Society of Professional Engineers selected Dr. Eugene Camponeschi as a top ten finalist as part of its 28th Annual Federal Engineer of the Year Award Program. NSPE recognizes him for achievements in the field of composites and structures research. Accomplishments include contributing to development of the successful advanced enclosed composite mast, now appearing on USS San Antonio (LPD 17) Class amphibious ships. The Navy uses these to make vessels more difficult to detect and allow easier maintenance.

Dr. Camponeschi has been a major player in the future DDG 1000 destroyer integrated topside design and its integrated deckhouse project. The Navy sponsors his work through Carderock Division's Structures and Composite Division in the Survivability, Structures and Materials Department,

Dr. Camponeschi holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware, with an MS and BS from Virginia Tech in Engineering Science and Mechanics and is a member of Tau Beta Pi.
