Denbridge Digital To Provide Offshore Protection To Esso

December 4, 2000

ESSO Production Malaysia Inc. (EPMI) has placed an order with Radii Teknologi Sdn. Bhd., the Malaysian representative of the VTS Group of Denbridge Digital for the supply and installation of a radar-based collision avoidance system for their "Lawit A" offshore platform. This Vessel Traffic Services (VTS)-based system, using Denbridge Digital's modular design, will supervise all surface vessel activities in the vicinity of the platform. The system will provide continuous monitoring of shipping movements and facilitate the early detection of craft conducting dangerous maneuvers.

The system will consist of two Furuno radar transceivers linked to a Denbridge Digital APX-8000 radar display, through an RCS-4000 raw radar video compression and tracking system. The radar equipment will be located on the platform's telecommunications tower and connected to the operations center via a fiber-optic Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network).

The RCS-4000 compression system converts all analog radar signals to seven bits of data (128 levels), while at the same time tracking in excess of 200 targets per scan. The APX-8000 can reproduce up to eight bits of radar video (256 levels), overlaid on Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC) in S-57 or ARCS format, while simultaneously displaying target tracks from multiple radar sources.
