The diesel-electric LNG re-gasification tanker GDF Suez Neptune, a Samsung built ship, is unusual because of her diesel-electric propulsion together with her re-gasification capabilities. She will be operated by Hoegh LNG under long-term charter with GDF Suez.

At 928 ft in length, 141 ft in mts breadth and 85 ft in depth, the 70,860dwt tanker’s twin 13,200 kW motors enable a service speed of 19.5 knots.

GDF Suez Neptune, was delivered with 45 screens from the SOLASOLV range installed at her navigation bridge windows.  The SOLASAFE roller screens were manufactured and supplied by Solar Solve Marine from their South Shields based headquarters and reject up to 91% of the glare, 65% of the heat and 98% of the uv radiation from the sun.  When in use, they will protect ships personnel from solar radiation and create a more effective and efficient environment in which to work.  They are also very effective against glare from ice and snow and retaining heat within the wheelhouse when it is very cold outside

“The ship has 45 SOLASAFE screens installed, which is a significant number for any size of vessel,” said John Lightfoot, Solar Solve’s chairman.  “Current practice is to have windows all round the wheelhouse offering 360 degree vision for greater efficiency and safety.  The addition of a roller sun screen at every window, to improve visibility and comfort, is an added benefit the vessel’s crew will really appreciate.”
