Weather services company Baron Services, Inc. announced the immediate availability of the Velocity Weather API, designed for use by marine industry manufacturers and software developers who want to integrate a weather stream into their final product, including smart phone and tablet apps, websites, MFDs and chart plotters.

According to the developer, Velocity Weather API delivers powerful, reliable, location-based and meteorologically accurate weather and atmospheric data via the Internet.

The Velocity Weather API is powered by customizable, high-resolution, auto-updating content and has been designed for quick and seamless integration into most applications and platforms by using common data formats including JSON and TMS, Baron said. RESTful architecture ensures a familiar development environment.

Marine manufacturers and software developers can choose to integrate only domestic data products or they can choose to include select data products which feature global data. Each developer can customize their own data package to fit their unique weather needs, including wave direction and period, surface winds, high resolution sea surface temperature, hurricane tracks and more.
