Rosatomflot Delivers First Shipment for Arctic LNG 2
Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer and LNG operator, Novatek received the first shipment of cargo for its Arctic LNG 2 project at the Utrenneye field.
The nuclear container ship Sevmorput owned by Rosatomflot loaded the cargo and arrived at the site on March 26, said a statement from Rosatomflot.
It took the Sevmorput five days of sailing to reach the Gulf of Ob, it said. The 260 meter long vessel on 21st March sailed out from Arkhangelsk fully loaded with construction goods for Novatek’s new natural gas project.
“The transfer from Arkhangelsk went in a regular mode and took five days,” said Andrey Smirnov, director of shipping for Atomflot FSUE.
In the Gulf of Ob, a transport vessel with a nuclear power plant took the 50 Years of Victory nuclear icebreaker under wiring, and then the Taimyr nuclear-powered icebreaker delivered the container ship to the unloading site.
“Our ship’s cargo devices allow for the most efficient unloading on an unequipped shore,” said Farid Gabbasov, captain of the Sevmorput nuclear container ship. - The crew has a successful experience of such work. According to our forecasts, the unloading will end no earlier than April 5th.
After that, the nuclear container ship “Sevmorput” will re-emerge in the direction of the seaport of Arkhangelsk. In April, the Rosatomflot ship will deliver the second shipment of cargo for the Arctic LNG 2 project.
