SAAM Towage Azimuth Tug Pair Ready to Work
The azimuth tugs SAAM Huasteca and SAAM Valparaíso, both owned by SAAM Towage, reached the ports of Veracruz and Colón, respectively, and will soon complete the process of registering and being licensed to operate.
SAAM Huasteca is designed to perform escort functions, as required for large container ships to best enter the recently inaugurated northern area at the port of Veracruz, Mexico. It was built in Vietnam at the DAMEN SONGCAM shipyard, part of the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group, and is powered by a pair of Caterpillar 2,525 kW engines driving Kongsberg azimuth thrusters, giving it a bollard pull of 85 tons. Its features as an “escort” tug allow it to reach a free sailing speed of 13 knots. It also has top fire fighting capacity with an FIFI1 Class notation..
SAAM Valparaíso, delivered by Sanmar Shipyards in 2018, is an ASD Ramparts Class 2400-SX vessel measuring 24.4 x 11.25 meters. It has a pull capacity of 70 tons and is powered by CAT engines and Kongsberg thrusters with total power of 4200kW.
