Port Security Meeting Scheduled for Friday

Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and John Breaux (D-La.) will hold a U.S. Senate hearing on seaport security, cargo inspection and hazardous materials transportation at the University of Houston Law Center at 1:30 p.m. C.S.T., Friday, Jan. 11, 2002. Witnesses will include representatives of the port authority, the petroleum and chemical industries, as well as Coast Guard and U.S. Customs officials. Prior to the hearing, at 11 a.m. C.S.T., there will be a tour of the Port of Houston and briefing (both open to the media) aboard the inspection vessel Sam Houston (owned and operated by the Port of Houston Authority). After the tour, the vessel will dock back at the San Jacinto Battleground, and Sens. Hutchison and Breaux will be available to speak to media at 11:30 a.m. C.S.T.
