September 13, 2006

Crowley Maritime Corporation has presented a Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship to InterAmerican University student Juan Xavier Berrios Guzman, from Barranquitas. Crowley has awarded 24 scholarships totaling tens of thousands of dollars to deserving students in Puerto Rico since 1984. Students are selected for the scholarship by the Puerto Rico Department of Education based on academic success and financial need. Berrios will pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting with the long-term goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He expressed his gratitude to Crowley for helping him get through college and was captivated by Crowley's scope and diversity of services, which immediately generated aspirations to join the company following his graduation. During his three years at Luis Muñoz Marín High School he was a member of the Board of Directors of Cooperativa Juvenil Cemí Barranquiteña, a credit union administered by the students. Over the years, Crowley Chairman, President and CEO, Tom Crowley Jr. has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to deserving students at select institutions from Alaska to Puerto Rico in the name of his father, Thomas B. Crowley Sr., who guided the company before passing away in 1994.
