SNAME Awards $165,000 in Scholarships

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is pleased to announce graduate and undergraduate scholarship winners. $165,000 in scholarship awards have been made by the Society for the 2010-11 academic year.

Eleven Graduate Scholarships were awarded. Recipients are Stephanie Chin, Seth Cooley, Jonathan Dowsett, Austin French, William Garland, Daniel Givan, David Gross, Matthew Lankowski, Christopher McKesson, Daniel Place, and Douglas Rigterink. 43 undergraduates also received awards. Most notable among these are Ryan Pfeifer of Webb Institute, winner of the Mandell and Lester Rosenblatt Undergraduate Scholarship, and Christopher D. Rose from Webb Institute, winner of the Robert N. Herbert Undergraduate Scholarship. The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students since 1933. The 2010-11 awards bring the total number of Graduate Scholarship awards to 426 and undergraduate awards to 1,062 over the history of the Society.

Annual contributions to Webb Institute of Naval Architecture have been made to support its program. The Scholarships Committee, chaired by Dr. Walter M. Maclean, P.E. has continued to give the selection process the dedicated care that has characterized the various Scholarships Committees work through the years. A thorough review of the guidelines for the graduate and undergraduate selection process was conducted during the year, and will continue on an on-going basis.
